Chapter 4: Background

Trudgen's POV

I walked into First Order Enterprises with Ap'lek and Cardo and took the elevator up. The top floor was Kylo Ren's living space, but we were headed to our direct headquarters just below that. I wasn't sure if the other Knights would be there, but I needed to talk to Kylo and Kuruk about this new woman I had seen at two of the places we frequented. I had told Ap'lek and Cardo about meeting her at the bar while we were training at the gym, and they had never seen or heard of her. It worried us a bit, however we had never required Dana to give us an updated schedule of everyone that worked at his gym (unlike Jack at the bar), because we usually didn't see anyone but him when we entered the gym. And maybe that douchebag Nick on occasion. But now that I had seen Samara at both locations, we needed to know more about her now.

Vicrul had sent Kuruk some information about her the other night while we were at the bar, so Kuruk knew to get started on gathering information on her. I was sure he had already told Kylo as well, but they didn't know she was working at both locations.

I knocked on the door to Kylo's office and heard a muffled "come in" from the other side. I walked in and Kylo was on the phone. "Yes, we'll pull information on him and leave by tomorrow. I'll send my best." He set his phone down and sipped a glass of scotch as he sat at his desk. "What's going on?"

"We need the background completed on Samara by today," I stated.

"Why?"

"She works at Dana's gym too."

Kylo almost choked on his drink. "I'll get Kuruk to send us what he has." Kylo got on his phone and messaged Kuruk to meet us in his office with the information. He messaged Vicrul and Ushar to meet us as well.

Kuruk entered a few minutes later carrying a small laptop. He sat it on Kylo's desk and opened it to face outwards towards us and began explaining as Vicrul and Ushar walked in a few moments later. "Samara is not an undercover agent. She did tell you truth at the bar; she is from Arizona, she is single, and she had only been working at the bar for a few days when you met her."

I leaned down and skimmed over the background check on the screen. It showed us several places that she had lived while in Arizona before moving into her current apartment with a roommate named Lynn, which explained the recent text messages from her. She had moved nearly every year for the past several years while she was living in Scottsdale. She'd worked three jobs in the last ten years back in Arizona: first she worked at a fast food place when she was a teenager, and after she turned 21, she worked at two separate bars. One of the bars was a dive bar called Star Bar and the next was a bar called Blue Bloods.

"Did you get any information on who Asshole Chris is?"

"Yes," Kuruk continued. "I pulled her cellphone records and found it usual that she had been receiving phone calls multiple times a month from one phone number in Arizona. It's his. I also found some background information on him, but there isn't much here."

"Why not?" Kylo asked.

"He's a cop." Thick and heavy tension filled the room when Kuruk spoke. "That's where she met Chris, at Blue Bloods. It's a cop hang out, and I called around; he's a regular there. If you notice, she stopped working at Star Bar shortly after she started working at Blue Bloods."

"Do you think that's strange?" I asked. "It doesn't seem weird to me."

Kuruk paused a moment and sighed. "I'm not really sure what exactly happened, but I know she wasn't making much money at Blue Bloods. So I don't know why she would've quit Star Bar. She wasn't making enough at Blue Bloods to pay half the rent at the few places she lived with him. I do know that they signed a lease together at this point," he pointed to an address. "This house they rented together for a year, and over the next four years they moved to a different rental property every year. I pulled her credit report too." Kuruk handed me the folder and I opened it.
