The team sat around the table, wearing similar expressions of worry and concern. Tony's face was in his hands and Nat sighed and placed the note back down on the table.

"So... that's it? Not even a goodbye?" Wanda asked sadly.

"He said he'd be back." Pietro said in a halfhearted voice.

"Nat," Tony said, finally looking up, "What was going on with Peter?"

Nat didn't respond immediately, causing everyone to look up in alarm.

"Peter texted me one night, before he got the internship.," Nat paused and sighed.

"Didn't you guys wonder why a smart kid like Peter was homeless? He told me that his Aunt was on her business trip, and her boyfriend was taking care of him. The boyfriend got rid of his dog, so he ran away... but I think it might have been more than that. Did you notice how Peter flinched when you touched him the first couple times?" Tony frowned and shook his head to himself.

"Are you telling me that my son could be at this minute with a guy who...?" He never finished his sentence. Many of the avengers wore scowls or terrified expressions on their faces.

"What the hell are we waiting for? Let's go find him." Clint said.

"But what if we're wrong? We can't take him away from his last living relative, right?" Bucky said. No one wanted to respond. Tony got up and began to pace.

"FRIDAY, is there any way I could get security footage of Peter's apartment? Do they even have that?" He asked as he ran his hands through his hair.

"It appears not, sir. However, there has been a significant amount of police activity in that area in the past 10 minutes," Tony's blood ran cold.

"What's going on?? Is it just a petty crime or..."

"Would you like me to hack the police report?"

"Yes!" Many Avengers replied impatiently.

"The police received a call from one May Parker at Peter's address. She was shot and injured by one Derek Altario and appeared to be in distress. The police forced the door and immediately took Altario into custody. Information on Peter is unknown, as the report is still being created,"

"Dammit," Tony muttered as he called his suit. However, as the armor formed around him, Friday interrupted.

"Sir, Peter has entered the lobby."

The whole team rushed forwards towards the elevator, but it came up first. Peter ran out, tears streaking down his face.

Peter's Pov

"I'm sorry Tony. I just didn't know what else to do," I sobbed when I saw him and the team staring at me after I exited the elevator. At least they don't look angry at me.

"Peter! What's going on? Why-" He stopped short as he watched me place Steeb gently down on the floor. I wiped my eyes.

"Can you help him?" My voice shook. Tony nodded, and immediately Steve the person surged forward and picked up Steeb. I watched as he practically sprinted into the elevator, but Tony gently turned my head to look at him.

"Pete, are you alright?" I instinctively began to nod, but then slowly shook my head. Everything just burst out of me at once, I guess, and I wound up sobbing into Tony's shoulder. I don't know how long I cried, but at some point we ended up on the couch in some huge, avenger-pile.

"Can you tell me what happened Peter?" Tony asked after what felt like ages. I sniffed and rubbed my eyes.

"When I went back, he was really angry. H-he had a gun, and told me that he would use it on my Aunt if I- we didn't leave. I was going to try and let S-spiderman take care of it, but then... he shot my aunt," The last part was barely louder than a whisper. "I tried to stop him and get the gun away while my aunt called the cops, but he overpowered me... He was going to kill me, but Steeb charged him, and now..."

"Hey, he's going to be okay. We have great doctors here, I'm sure they can heal him." Tony said, but he didn't look very sure.

"I'm so sorry," I mumbled, not looking at anyone now, "I can go if you want."

"What?!" It was Nat who interrupted me with a bewildered expression. "Peter, why would we want you to leave?" I looked at the rest of the avengers, who were now giving me some very confused looks.

"Well... I left you guys. You're not mad at me or anything?" A huge uproar of 'Hell no!', 'Of course not!', and 'no way!' echoed around the room.

"маленький паук, we were worried about you, not mad!"

I let out a small, embarrassed smile. All of us sat in silence, still holding on to each other, until the tranquility was interrupted again by my phone. Seeing that it was the hospital they took my aunt to, I quickly got up and answered it.

"Hello?"

"Is this Peter Parker, nephew of May Parker?"

"Yes, that's me."

"Hello. We are calling to inform you of your aunt's condition. Luckily, the injury was non-life threatening, and she will recover. Your aunt's recovery may take up to 6 weeks, at least 2 of which must be spent at the hospital. Are you in the custody of an emergency parent or guardian?"

"Er... yes,"

"Very well." The caller paused. "Your aunt would like to speak to you." After a small pause, I heard Aunt May's tired voice on the phone.

"Peter? Are you okay? Where are you?"

"I'm fine Aunt May, I took Steeb to get some medical attention."

"Where are you though? The nurse asked if you were with somebody and you said yes!" Aunt May's voice turned stern.

"I'm... at the Avenger's tower," I replied nervously. There's no use in lying now, right?

"W H A T?!"

Oh boy, I have a lot of explaining to do.
