Author's Note:
Hey everyone! I'm so sorry for not being able to update for a while, my life got super crazy all at once. I had to take a little break from wattpad with my mental health gone to shit and moving halfway across the country and all. I just want to thank you guys for being such great readers and commenters, you guys are so amazing. You didn't come here to hear me talk though, so without further ado, here's chapter 16!
Peter's Pov
I was currently sitting around the table with Tony and the rest of the Avengers. I convinced him to let me out of the med bay because my healing factor would take care of my ribs. He didn't need to know that it usually took a day or two. Now the Avengers were urging me to tell them some stories of my Spidey adventures.
"You guys would never believe it! They actually tried to rob a bank-" I paused, giggling a little, "-in avengers masks!" Everyone laughed at the mental image of people dressed as the avengers robbing a place. "And then-" I was interrupted suddenly when my phone rang. My heart jumped into my throat when I saw the caller I.D. Everyone else must have seen my expression, because the laughter died. I got up and answered it.
"H-hey Aunt May..."
"Hey Peter! How are you?"
"Fine! You told me you only had a limited number of call minutes, so you'd only call in an emergency, what's wrong?"
"Oh, it's not an emergency, I just have really great news! Guess what?"
"What?"
"We got done early, I'm coming home!!"
"Really?" I exclaimed, "That's great!" My smile died as I turned around to face the Avengers, all of them with confused or worried expressions. I remembered why exactly I was living with them.
"C-can I call you back?"
"Of course Pete! Larb you!"
"Larb you too." I said, and hung up the phone. I sat back down and put my face in my hands. "That was my Aunt May," I said, not looking up, "She's coming back from her business trip early." No one said anything, probably comprehending what that meant.
"That means you're going to go back to living with her." Mr. Barton summarized gravely.
"Even after what he did to you?" Miss. Romanoff said murderously. This confused everyone else, but I only gave a half-hearted shrug, before trudging off to my room. I guess it was going to be a guest room again, since I wouldn't be able to live here anymore. I dejectedly threw the stuff I had into a bag before flopping face down onto my bed. I want to see my Aunt May and be a family with her again, but I don't want to have to give up my family with the Avengers. And going back to live with her means going back to being a punching bag for when she's not looking.
I flopped over and stared at the ceiling. I know why I don't want to go back, I just don't want to admit it.
I'm scared.
As if sensing my inner turmoil, Steeb came over and started licking my face. I sighed and sat up at the same time my phone buzzed. It was Aunt May. Her plane lands tomorrow morning. That means I have to be back to the apartment by then. I frowned and fell back onto my bed, eventually falling into a fitful sleep.
When I woke up the next morning, it was around 5:30. No one should be up by then, so I grabbed my stuff and Steeb's leash. Quickly, I wrote a note to the team. I tried to explain what was going on, but there were just too many emotions to express. I heard the sound of Cap getting up for his morning run, so I cut the note short and just put: 'Thank you guys for letting me stay. I'll be back if I'm not fired,', before running into the elevator.
