   'Don't get distracted, Giyuu! FIGHT!'

Ignoring the newly given wounds, the Water Pillar bolted towards the direction of the demon, hopelessly thrusting his katana around, causing his body to ache and blood splurge out of his scars.

'THIS IS THE LAST ONE! FIGHT!'

Given the state he was in, Giyuu himself wasn't sure if he would live to see the very next sunrise. Two of his limbs were broken from his previous missions and his posture had weakened. Scars trailed along every inch of his body, holding him back from flawlessly performing his techniques.

He desperately needed to get them treated by a doctor or perhaps anyone in that matter. But, he was stubborn—Giyuu pushed himself ahead and didn't look back.

To be more frank, he didn't want anyone seeing him in such a poor state. The Water Pillar wasn't prepared to receive backlash from his comrades. They were awfully crucial with their words, especially the Wind Pillar.

His words rang inside his ears, constantly reminding him of his weak, useless existence. Every night, Giyuu couldn't stop hearing those words—and those peaceful nights would turn into sleepless nights. Sanemi Shinazugawa were one of the reasons why.

"Just give up! You're clearly exhausted — you can't go on!" The demon cackled, dodging Giyuu's every attack with ease. They were clearly toying with him and that angered the Water Pillar.

"DON'T GET COCKY...
I'LL KILL YOU!"

Giyuu jumped into the air and spun around as he drew in a deep breath, devising another technique. He was worn out from the last three demons, his energy running low. So, he had to finish quickly or else he would lose his life in this very forest.

He tore the sleeve of his Corps. uniform and wrapped it around his wounds carefully, preventing any more blood loss.

'It's time to finish this, you fucking maggot.'

The demon perceived the small action as an opportunity and lunged forward. However, their head met with the cold ground, its small body disintegrating into a pile of ashes.

"You—!" The demon growled, glaring at the Water Pillar.

Giyuu turned around and smirked, returning its glare, sapphire eyes full of hatred. "Rot in hell, you bastard." Those were the last words the two shared, the demon's ashes fading away with the wind.

He finally allowed himself to relax, his body dropping onto the dirt, his shoulders slumped with a heavy weight. Giyuu lifted his haori off the moist ground and held it close to his chest, tears brimming in the corner of his vision.

"Did I do well today?" The Water Pillar whispered, gazing up at the moon, its light pooling around his fragile body.

"Did I, Sabito..?"
