Kanao had always kept her distance, watching her peers from afar as they sparred or trained with one another, the idea of getting too close was distasteful and unneeded. Was she ever tempted to? Of course, one ought to feel that way.
She was a lone wolf and no matter how hard her peers tried to communicate with her, Kanao would only offer a small smile before turning away and into her room or the garden. It was a very soothing area; the variety of gorgeous flowers nourishing butterflies. She would watch as they fluttered their wings and swarm the area with glee. Kanao loved to imagine as if she were one of them, free from the consequences of being human and fly far away.
All she desired was some peace and quiet, a place where she could be alone and away from her problems.
However, when a certain Kamado sibling entered her life, she couldn't look away even if her life depended on it. Long black hair with tips that faded into a bubbly light pink, pink doe-eyes that sparkled under the sunlight and moon's glory, and a breathtaking smile. The girl was fascinatingly pretty and Kanao wasn't sure if her heart would skip a beat every time she came across her.
Heck, she didn't know if she was even alive. How can a mere human like herself witness a beauty be so kind to her regardless of the many wordless moments they shared? Kanao considered herself to be the luckiest girl on earth.
"Hey Kanao! How are you doing?" Nezuko chirped, skipping her way over to the raven head. She placed herself beside her, waiting for a response that she knew was never to come, but, she wanted to ask anyways.
Kanao stilled in her place, taking in the warmth from the proximity. Their shoulders touched with each movement, her heart a fluttering mess at the mere though of them being so close. She felt her throat grow immensely dry, afraid of uttering a word that could embarrass her.
She hated how Nezuko could make her feel so little yet so elated at the same time. The Kamado could make her spiral in her thoughts in an oddly thrilling way; it really freaked her out.
"The weather's really nice today huh?" Nezuko continued, her mollified voice soothing to listen to. It was like a soft melody, urging you to stay and take note of how beautiful it was. So sweet, like a fluff of cotton candy, and gentle with each word being spoken. She truly had a pure heart of gold.
A heart Kanao was afraid to taint.
Nezuko remained silent for a brief moment, basking in the warmth provided from the sun's golden rays, bouncing off her pink eyes. The light pooled around the two, a few butterflies surrounding them, fluttering their unique wings. It felt romantic, the scenery pulled right out of a fairytale, but Nezuko couldn't make that thought known.
She'd scare Kanao away.
"Hey, I just remembered about what happened a few moments ago! You wouldn't believe what happened." Nezuko giggled at the memory, attracting the attention of Kanao, noticing the slight tilt of her head in her peripheral vision. She took that as a sign to continue.
She inched closer, a wide smile tugging at her lips, unaware of how awfully close they were. "Inosuke thought it would be funny to disguise Zenitsu as a girl to infiltrate the Butterfly mansion, here, to scare Aoi and take some food."
Kanao narrowed her eyes, biting back a smile of her own. She could already picture the outcome.
"But he didn't think Giyuu would be visiting so Zenitsu ended up kicking him since he confused him for a kidnapper and now.. he's tied up in a tree. Inosuke is currently throwing apples at him." Nezuko finished with a stifled laugh, her head gently leaning on Kanao's shoulder. She hadn't notice how stiff the other was; Kanao's cheeks glowed a deep shade of red, her smile small yet vibrant.
Her body finally began to relax as she noticed how divine Nezuko appeared in broad daylight, her eyes tracing the patchwork of freckles lined across her cheeks. Her fingers ached to push aside her hair to take a good look at her features.
This girl didn't know the major effect she had on her, however, Kanao didn't mind. She wouldn't want to ruin anything between them.
Nezuko was her sun, the light that guided her in this world, and maybe, with the little hope she had in her chest, she was hers too.
