Rachel's birthday party comes by quickly. In the meanwhile, I keep having the butterfly feelings all over again each time I see Mr. Alton.
My phone rings, as I am putting my black high heel booties on. It's Drew. I wonder what's going on.
"Hey," I pick up.
"Hi Minnie, what are you up to?"
"I'm getting ready for Rachel's party. You coming?"
"That's what I wanted to ask. Is Kate going?"
I grin. "Yes, she is. She's really excited. She'd be happy to see you there."
"She would?"
"Yeah. She likes you," I say.
"Are you sure? Like, how sure are you?"
"I don't know, Drew, like 97%?" I laugh at his desperateness. "Be there in 30 minutes," I say before I hang up.
I leave the dorms 10 minutes later, calling a cab to go to the hairdresser Kate is in. By the time Kate gets in the cab, Rae has texted me seven times, asking where we are. In the cab, Kate attacks me with her red lipstick. I hate lipsticks, they're a real pain in the ass, but it's Kate we're talking about. Her persuasiveness and the new muscles she has gained through gym combined are enough to make me give up. I look at myself from the front camera of my phone, and I have to admit, it does look good on me.
As soon as Rae opens the door, she jumps around my neck. I can smell a little bit of alcohol in her breath. "Happy birthday!" I laugh.
"Thank you," she laughs. I hand her the bag, which my gift is in. It's not something big or valuable, it's a picture of Kate, Rae, and I, and a note about the way they have become my family over the last month. She takes the bag and wraps her arms around Kate's neck this time. As they talk, I look around for the first time. It's not overly crowded, but there are at least 50, maybe 60 people in there. The place is a wide and open space, and I suddenly remember that this is Flynn's place. He must have left, I think.
Kate drags me somewhere inside. "Lets get some drinks, there's something I want to celebrate," she shouts over the music. I feel nervous all of a sudden. I have never drank before. I mean, maybe a glass of wine every once in a while with my family, but I've never drank properly. That's when we see Drew. She stops breathing when she sees him.
"Go," I shout at her.
"What about the drinks?"
"I'll get the drinks," I laugh. "I won't be quick, don't worry."
She grins and starts walking rapidly towards Drew. I, on the other hand, have to get drinks, and honestly, I do not know crap about drinks. Not only do I not know what drink to get, but I also do not know where to get them in this house. I start walking towards the room which I assume is the kitchen, hoping that I will find the drinks there.
I step inside, and a few people are inside, doing shots. I do not know what they're drinking, but I am curious, to be honest. I look away, and open the door of the refrigerator. I find bottles of beer and wine inside. I look on the counter and see bottles labled "tequila" and "vodka" and many other stuff. I quickly grab three beers and shut the fridge. I bump on a hard, yet familiar surface as soon as I turn around. "Shit," I scream, startled. That's when I look up, and I am face to face with two nice blue eyes all of a sudden. Flynn.
"Hi," he says with a smirk.
"H- hi," I stutter. I step away from the fridge.
"You need to stop swearing," he laughs, heading to open the door of the refrigerator. He grabs a beer and opens the bottle with one swift movement. I suddenly remember the bottles in my hand, and try to hide them, afraid that he might see them. He is a teacher after all.
