FLYNN'S POV
"Hey there," I whisper. There are two other people in the tiny bookstore, digging in some bookshelves.
I'm surprised to see her get out of detention and run to the bookstore. She really must be a bookworm.
"Hi," she replies, clearly surprised. "How did you get here so quickly? I got out of the school before you."
"I have a car," I chuckle.
"Oh."
I don't know what to say, and it's so awkward. I don't remember being in this position before. Ever. "These are really old," I mutter.
"Yeah," she smiles peacefully. She closes her eyes and takes in the smell of the book. She gently and slowly rubs her hand over the book. "I like old things. They hold lots of memories."
"You don't know that," I say, realistically.
"Yeah but still. It's just nice to imagine where this book came from." She opens the book and flips the pages slowly. She stops and softly stares at a coffeestain. Her fingers wander around the brown circle. "Why was this mug on the page? Who placed it over there? Did anyone get mad at her because she messed it up? Did she try to hide the mark? So many questions..."
"Here it is, sweetheart!" I hear a cheerful voice. It's Claire. The owner of the shop. She's so kind and caring. Everytime I'm next to her... It feels like they're back. Like they're with us again... I feel comfortable around her.
"Thank you so much," she smiles back at her. And it's not just a normal smile. She smiles with her eyes, her lips, her face... Her soul...
How does she know Claire? Is she her grandma? Maybe. That might be why she likes to read so much. I guess people just gain habits just by being next to each other.
Just like Carmen. She loves to read. She likes when I read to her. She's a dreamer. I don't know what I'd do without her. She's just everything to me-
"Bye Mr. Alton," her cheerful voice mumbles, and she leaves.
"Yeah, b-bye," I stutter behind her. Somehow I'm glad that she didn't hear me stutter, but at the same time I wish she would have noticed me. I don't know why, it's jus-
"I thought Carmen was waiting for you, boy," Claire playfully remarks.
"Oh, no, Lauren is going to bring her on Saturday," I smile and nod towards the book. "But I'll get this anyway."

JASMINE'S POV
I unlock the door to the dorm, and walk inside, afraid that I'll find Rachel with a guy again. Fortunately, Kate is the only one in the room, other than Rachel.
"Hey," I smile and place my purse on the bed. "What's up?"
"Hey," Kate smiles. "How was detention with Mr Hottie?" she smirks.
"Oh my God! He's my brother for God's sake!"
"He is hot, though," Kate remarks.
"I know," Rachel grins.
"You're both so disgusting you know that, right?"
"Why?" they both giggle at the same time.
"Ugh! He's a teacher," I grab a salad I bought from Whole Foods Market.
