"Slow down! I'm not used to this!"
"Come on, Kate, it's only been ten minutes!"
It's now Monday afternoon, and Kate and I are hiking together, but she keeps whining. Her shoulders fall down and she sits at the curb. "How am I supposed to get thinner when I can't even jog for ten minutes."
"You will, Kate, I promise. It's just going to take a little time to get used to the routine. It's going to be so much more easier every day," I say after I take a seat next to her. "Come on, now."
"I can't even breathe, Minnie," she speaks panting.
"We'll continue slower, Kate. Don't worry," I smile kindly.
"I can't, Mins, please," I chuckle at her calling me 'Mins'.
"Okay, I give up!" Just as I speak, my phone starts ringing. "But once I hang up the phone, we'll continue," I say and throw the water bottle at her.
I look at the caller ID, and see that it's Mom. I walk away from Kate. "Mom,"
"Hello, Jasmine," she says coldly. Why is she always so cold? She's supposed to be the closest one to me. She's literally the only one who calls me Jasmine.
"Hi, Mom, how are you?" I ask, ignoring her coldness. I know we had a fight last weekend, but we haven't been talking since then, and I can't really fight with her again, so I just act as if nothing happened.
"I'm fine, what are you doing?" she asks.
"I'm hiking with a friend," I say.
"Good to hear that you haven't stopped taking care of your body," she says and I can hear the satisfaction in her voice. "Who is this friend," she asks, obviously asking if it's a boyfriend.
"Mom, she's my roommate," I roll my eyes as I turn the corner, I want to give Kate some space and time to cool off.
I continue walking as she asks about my school work. Five minutes later, we're off the phone. I turn around to go back to Kate, but I bump into a huge and strong chest. A pair of big hands hold me in the lower back, so that I don't fall down. A strong yet fresh smell fills my nostrils before I can pull myself back. I lift my head up to see who this hard but comfortable chest belongs to. Ohmygod. Mr Alton.
"Oh, um... S-sorry," I babble, surprised by how sexy he smells. I realize I'm still leaning against him, my hands wrapped around his body. I quickly remove myself, trying to ignore the wonderful smell. I struggle not to imagine being his arms again. He was very soft, yet athletic. Ohmygod, what the hell am I thinking?! Shut up! SHUT UP!
I suddenly realize that I've been looking deep into his eyes the whole time. I quickly drop my gaze and take a step back.
"It's okay," he chuckles. Obviously I've boosten his ego. He's making fun of me!
"Good," I snap at him immediately. "I have to go," I say, and turn around, not even looking at his face.
I start walking real fast, until I hear his voice. "You're going to the wrong way, dumbass," he laughs. Oh. My. God. Did he just call me 'dumbass'? He's so going to pay for this.
I turn around and say, "No, I'm not, dumbass!" I call out to him, not even caring that he's my teacher. Although I know I am going to the wrong direction. I turn back around and continue in the wrong direction, but I don't care because it's a circular road so I know I'm going to end up where Kate is, anyhow. It's just going to take a little bit longer...
