"Can you stand?" Nat asked. You nodded shakily and tried to pull yourself to your feet. Just as soon as you managed to get upright, your knees buckled. Your vision went blurry and you tried to grab the wall, or anything, really, to keep yourself from slamming into the floor.
Natasha swooped down and caught you before you could hit the ground. She helped you sit back down against the wall.
"S-sorry," you stuttered pathetically, "I-"
"It's okay," Nat interrupted. She slipped on hand under your legs and the other on your back, lifting you easily.
"I've got you, y/n." It was barely audible but you were almost sure you heard her softly add, "I've always got you."
____
She carried you up to your room and set you on the bed delicately. You braced forward to stay upright. You tried everything you could to compartmentalize the pain, but it wasn't working.
Nat kneeled in front of you with a first aid kit.
"Can you tell me what happened?" You shook your head,
"Okay," she replied kindly, "can you tell me where it hurts?"
"Um," you looked her up and down, "are you crying?" She shook her head,
"No, I'm okay. Can you tell me where it hurts the most?" You bit your lip, then winced at the split,
"My ribs." She stepped forward and reached out,
"Can I?" You nodded slowly, ignoring the wave of dizziness. She pulled up your shirt and examined the bruises. A few were open wounds do to the impact. Nat pressed your skin lightly, feeling your ribs.
"They aren't broken. Not severely anyway. We'll have Bruce do an x-ray in the morning." She smiled up at you gently,
"For now, I'm just going to treat and bandage the open wounds, okay?"
"Okay."
Nat got a wet paper towel and wiped the blood the was trickling from the first wound.
"This may sting a little." She gabbed a bottle of cleaner and used it to clean the wound, wiping the excess blood and dirt with a paper towel, then put a piece of gauze over it. As she moved on to the second one, you clenched your jaw.
"Tasha," you said through gritted teeth.
"I'm sorry," she said quietly, "I have to do this or you'll get infected." You dug your fingers into the bedspread, using your last bit of energy to keep from exclaiming in pain. Suddenly a wave of dizziness washed over you. You were left lightheaded, the edges of your vision going black.
"T- Tasha. I' m gonna-"
Your world went dark.
____
You woke up to a stinging on your forehead. You reached up to see what it was and a hand gently moved yours back to your side.
"Almost done, y/n. Just hold on." As the pain from the rest of your body piled with the stinging from your forehead, you reached back up. Instead of trying to bat her hands away though, you grabbed one and, mind still clouded with sleep and blood loss, intertwined your fingers with hers. She put the band aid on your forehead and leaned down, giving it a little kiss.
You giggled at the gesture.
"You're cute," you mumbled. She smiled at you,
"You're delirious." Your eyes were slatted as you stared back at her. You tried to sit up and spots filled your vision. She laid you back down.
"Stay down, tiger. I'll get you some pain killers." You mumbled something about not needing them, but next thing you knew, she was sitting you up and you were swallowing two white pills and washing them down with water.
Nat helped you lay back and started to walk away. You weren't sure what she was doing, but the mix of pain killers, exaughstion, and blood loss made you feel that there could be nothing worse than her walking away right now.
"T-Tasha," you muttered, tears pricking at the corners of your vision, "stay with me?" She stopped, looked at you for a moment, then walked back to the bed, unable to refuse. She lay down next to you on her back and put her hands behind her head. You curled into her side, absorbing her warmth and instinctively she wrapped her arm around you. Sure, you'd had one of the worst days of your life, but it had the best ending you could've ever imagined.
