a/n: yeah uh, i'm sorry

"It's funny, she was designed as the weapon and yet I'm the one fighting to protect her," I thought to myself as I edged along the slight outcropping. I was doing everything in my power not to look down, to check if she was still alive down there. The creepy guy hadn't given me the stone, so she had survived the fall, but she could bleed to death of be in a coma or something down there could attack her-

No.

She's fine. Natasha is fine. Probably a little scraped up, maybe some broken bones, but she was alive and I was going to get to the bottom and we were going to get the hell out of here. That's what i focused on as I continued to climb down the cliff side. I looked to my left, away from where she would have landed and tried to gauge the distance to the ground. There was a weird purple-ish color to the sky that made you feel uneasy. Something wasn't right here. Something bad was happening and you weren't about to stick around to see it. Get to the bottom. Find Natasha. Get out of here, stone or no stone.

It didn't matter to you anymore. All you could think of was Natasha and the only way to keep from worrying was to picture her like she was. These past five years had been hard for her professionally, she'd lost a lot of people, but the two of you had grown close, fallen in love. She had become your world. When everything else was falling apart, you held each other together.

Stealing each others clothes, holding hands, falling asleep with your head in her lap, making blanket forts to cuddle in, her steal your dessert, reading together in bed, patching up her wounds, the quick braids she'd do in your hair when she was restless, forehead kisses, slow dancing in the kitchen, her head on your shoulder; Every day you were with her felt like a dream.

Your heart sped up as you reached the bottom of the cliff and your feet met the ground. For the first time, you looked to your right. You saw her immediately, laying flat against the ground. Her chest was rising and falling so shallowly you weren't sure if you were imagining it. You rushed to her side and falling to your knees, you lifted her head into your lap.

"Tasha," you exhaled as your fingers found her weak pulse. Her eyes fluttered open,

"Y/n?"

"Yes baby, it's me." You brushed the redish hair out of her face, ignoring the blood that leaked onto your fingers.

"Y/n, I...I think i'm dying." You shook your head,

"No. You're gonna be okay. Everything's going to be fine, I promise." She tried to move her head, but winced,

"I'm not-" she coughed and yet another p[ang of fear shot through your chest,

"Shh, Talia. Everything will be okay. I'll get help-" her tight grip on your hand drew your attention back to her,

"Don't."

"What?" You didn't understand, couldn't understand what she was asking for.

"Let me go...please."

"I-," you chocked back a sob, "I can't, I can't live without you." She reached up and wiped the tears from your cheeks,

"I need you t- I need you to let me go, y/n," you shook your head, crying harder,

"Please," it was barely a whisper, so quiet you would have missed it if the wind was blowing. It was stiller than bones burred beneath the catacombs. You nodded. You couldn't see her face, couldn't see anything but blurry tears as her hand gripped you shirt. You looked down at her,

"I love you, Natalia."

"I- I feel so light..."

There was a sudden flash and something fell from the sky. I caught it on instict. I was an orange crystal-like rock, warm to the touch despite the cold air. When you realized what you were looking at, you gasped.

You check her pulse and your worst suspicion were confirmed. Gently you pulled her body to your chest, rocking her like a baby.

"no." You held the rock up towards the sky,

"NO! I DONT WANT IT. GIVE HER BACK!" You threw the rock as hard as you could but it reappeared at your side. You threw it again.

"I SAID I DONT WANT IT!" The soul stone feel by your side.

"I don't want it," you said hugging Natashas body to your chest. You burred your face in her hair and tried to pretend that it was still before. That everything was okay, that she would wake up and hold your hand and kiss you and tell you everything would be okay. Nothing would ever be okay ever again.
