Chapter 14
Michael's POV
I think it's time that I face up to Tasha and tell her how I feel. We've known each other since we were kids in the neighborhood. Since the time she left the neighborhood as a kid, my mind could never stay off of Latasha. I was always thinking about her and wondered when I would ever see her again. I had always wondered if she had those same feelings that I had for her. Latasha It surprised me when I saw her the first day back to school, and we're seniors as well. I want to make this year up for her mine before going to college next year.
Speaking of which, I gotta finish writing my personal statement.
Tasha has been hanging with Terence for about a few weeks now, and she barely got with the crew lately. Prince and Kaylaa have been working on the thing they got going of course. Kiesha is planning to transfer to another school soon, so yeah. Basically, I'm left with nothing in my world besides education. However, that's not the point. I'm more concerned about how Tasha feels about Terrence lately. I hope she isn't falling for this guy. She asked me to come to her place so we can hang out, and I was more than happy to accept the offer.
Wearing a black hoodie and jeans, I showed up at Latasha's place. I walked up the steps and approached the door, I heard sounds of screaming and yelling. Sounds like her mother arguing with Tasha. I should walk in to interfere, but I don't know if that's a great idea. It suddenly got quiet, so I decided to text Tasha that I'm here.
Me: I'm here. You ok?
Tasha: I'll come let you in. Hold on.
A few moments later I waited and she opened the front door. Look at her and see the sad look on her face. It looked as if she was about to cry.
A concerned look appears on my face, "Are you okay? I heard the noise that was going on."
"Can we go somewhere? I don't want to be at home."
"Sure, we can walk to the park," not a minute less, she grabs her jacket and phone with her.
The walk wasn't that long from where she lived. It was about a 10-15 minute walk to East 76th, Rosenblum Park. We walked in silence to the park where we used to hang out when we were kids. Things have changed since she left. The old playground was bulldozed and made into a bigger field for softball, football field, track field, and a jogging lane all built for the new high school built 4 years ago. And the new park for the children was next to the fields. Latasha and I were sitting on the bench looking across the two fields and at the school.
I take a look at her, "Hey? I just want to let you know that I'm always here when you need someone to talk to."
"I know," she answers as she looks down. "I've hidden it from you guys, but lately my mother hasn't been much of the same person that I knew since coming back home."
"What's been going on?" I turn my body towards her to give her my full attention.
"Ever since my grandmother died and lost her other job, my mother hasn't been acting herself much. She used to wake up every day with joy in her eyes, always wore a smile...Now she just yells at me for little things I've done or just yells for no reason."
"Maybe she's been stressed lately and sometimes takes her anger out on you. But your mother doesn't mean the things she says, she still loves you..."
"I wish that were true..."
"Hey-"
"I'm serious. You wanna know what she said to me earlier? She told me that I was an ungrateful child. That she should've just aborted me when she had the chance..." she says as tears fall down her eyes. I was feeling sorry for Tasha.
