Chapter 16

I'm at Michael's house for Thanksgiving dinner with his family. This was something nice Michael invited me over. I know he didn't want me to be alone doing anything this holiday, and certainly, I know he would be worried if my mother got into an altercation with me again. Like I always remembered him as kind as him being so thoughtful and caring. Also very protective. He is like a brother I never had. He is also a very good friend to me. A friend that I hope would like me more than just a friend.

I am the first to arrive as Michael's guest for dinner. I am wearing black dress pants and a burgundy cashmere sweater for the family occasion. I wore my curly hair out, and of course, the necklace that Michael had given me when we were kids.

Michael is wearing a baby blue, collared shirt with a brown cashmere sweater over him. He took his penny loafers off and set them by the door after he unzipped his coat.

I took my shoes off revealing my socks, and I put my shoes next to his by the door. Michael then takes my jacket and hangs it up in the closet.

He then escorts me inside his small family home and takes me into the kitchen, where I am meeting his mother and his two sisters.

"Mother, this is my friend, Latasha."

She looks up in the direction where Michael and I are standing and smiles.

"Hi, it's nice to meet you."

"Tasha, this is my other sister Latoya," he points out to her stirring up something in a bowl.

"And this is my youngest sister, Janet," who was standing next to Latoya watching her mix. It seems they were just getting the food prepared.

"Hi," I softly greet and smile.

"We are happy to have you join us for Thanksgiving, Latasha," she walks over to me and hugs me. "Michael did mention to

"I'm very gracious to be here celebrating as well," I give a warm smile.

"Michael, show your guess around. Or hang out in the living room. We gotta finish cooking here."

"Okay, Mother. Tasha?" He extends his hand out to show me the way to his home.

He showed me where the bathroom is located, whenever I needed to use the bathroom. He then shows me the bedrooms in the small home upstairs where he shows each bedroom. He showed me where Janet and Randy shared rooms, then showed me Latoya's room, his mother's, and then his room.

I walk inside his bedroom and take a look around. I notice his nerdy side where he has posters of Super-Man and a few other DC comic characters.

"Nice posters," I complimented as I looked through his room.

"Thanks. I got them at the Comic Convention."

"You dressed up for a convention?"

"No. Not since I was little," I chuckle.

I nod and smile as I continue to look through his room. A small library of books I notice him keeping. Some are full of fictional stories, horror books, and a few books that deal with mechanics.

"Nice library. I see you are very interested in mechanics."

"Yeah. As I said, computer engineering is what I plan to major in," he says as she stands by.

"I didn't get to ask, have you thought of who you want to work for after college?"

"Well, I was thinking one day I can run my own tech business. Or maybe start my own gaming business," he folds his arms and stands as if he is thinking.
