We had been on the road for a little over two hours, when I suddenly saw a small dark figure placed in the middle of the street.
I hit the break with no regrets, the wheels steering; I could basically feel the entire van crying.

We came to a complete stop several seconds later, just centimeters away from the black ball.

The boy let out, what I could only imagine as a trail of curses in Korean, before quietly asking me what was the problem.

I ignored him, as I was already jumping down and sprinting in front of Betty.

The black ball, sadly, was a stray puppy left dying in the middle of the road.

The faint movements of his chest were the only indicator that gave me the reassurance the dog was still alive.

After further examination, I discovered the poor animal was covered in head to toes with coal.

He wouldn't be able to make it if I wouldn't take action immediately.

I quickly explained the situation to the boy beside me, who was trying to have a better understanding of what to do; and we climbed back on, speeding down the road, breaking way more than one rule.

I had parked Betty in a small clearing, similar to the past one with the lake, but not as beautiful.

As soon as I turned off the engine, I immediately searched for a bucket, filled it with fresh water and

gathered some soap.

Meanwhile the boy was busy taking care of the puppy, judging by the way they looked at each other, I knew he already had a soft spot for that small fur ball. I knew I would do everything in power to save him.

We spent more than half an hour cleaning the dog, thankfully I had managed to remove the first layers, shushing the animal that was whimpering from the pain.

I was trying to be as gentle as I could, but a firm hand was the only way to end successfully the job.

After one hour and two more buckets of water, the situation was much better, but there were still other layers of the black substance.

We were both slowly losing hope, seeing that it was impossible remove further layers without hurting more the poor animal.

"Can we take him in an animal hospital?" the singer asked, concern filling his voice.

"No, it's too far away" I answered "It would take at least two days of drive; and we don't have all that time."

I paused, trying to think of a solution, revising in my mind all the notes from previous years of college.

At first I couldn't remember anything, then an idea popped in my mind.

"Yoongi!" I excitedly called the boy "like dissolves like!" I said, while face palming for having forgotten such a simple thing.
What?" he asked, confusion painted on his face.

"It's one of the principles of chemistry!" I explained "What melts the coal?"

"search that up on the internet!" I said after the singer showed no signs of knowing the answer.

One hour and half later, the puppy was completely clean, resting on Yoongi's lap, tucked in a fluffy cover, fast asleep.

His blond fur poking out of the cover; he was a little golden retriever, a puppy who lost his way while wondering around.

There was no trace of his mother, not matter how hard we searched, but, thankfully, he was big enough to survive on his own.

When we found that oil could help us, we wasted no time and jumped into action.

It sure did something as the black substance came out way more easily, without hurting the animal too much.

"You know" Yoongi spoke up "Tae would love this puppy" he said, moving his eyes from the animal on his legs to me.

"I guess Tae is one of your friends?" I asked a little unsure.

The boy nodded before continuing "he really loves animals, and we lost count of how many times he asked if we could have a dog at the dorm." He chuckled "the only problem is that we don't have enough space."

"You live all together?" I asked a little shocked "Yes, all seven of us" he answered "It can be a little chaotic sometimes." He added, stealing me a laugh.
