I have seen a lot of things during my travels, but, a full grown adult crying his eyes out on the sidewalk, was the last thing that I would have imagined.
I haven't noticed him hours before when I jumped out of my van, ready to explore the city, but now the sun was setting down and I needed to take a decision quickly.
"Hey." I said. "it's everything all right?" he didn't bulge.
"hey! " I said, this time more loudly and shaking him. "are you okay?"
This time he actually looked up at me.
His eyes were puffy for all the crying and, to my surprise, he was way younger that I've imagined.
"they left me." Was the only thing he said before breaking down again.
It would have been useless trying to make him speak in that conditions.
"listen, it's getting late. And streets like this one can be dangerous at night. Why don't you come in, and we will speak about it ?"
"Why should I come with you? I don't even know you!" he almost shouted his answer, coming out pretty rude.
"I just wanted to help you... do as you please then, bye!"
I turned around ready to leave when his voice stopped me.
"Wait! ... I'll come"
Reluctantly, he got up and followed me.
Once we were sat in front of a cup of hot chocolate in the warm of my van, I had the opportunity to study him a little better.
His eyes were dark and a little red from the previous crying, his hair were blond, but judging by his features, I knew they were dyed.
His face was spotless, and once again, I was stunned by his young look.
"I'm April, by the way" I said, suddenly realizing that I forgot to present myself.
"Yoongi."
" well, Yoongi, could you please explain what happened?"
The first minutes were pure silence, but after that he opened up telling me everything: how he was in a famous kpop band, how they were travelling in the US. only for the second time in their lives. He spoke about the interviews, the projects and the album they were working on. And then, he told me about that afternoon that was supposed to be only a prank but it turned out in the worst case scenario: he jokingly placed a bet, and somehow a fight stated, and suddenly he found himself alone, with nothing but his phone in the pocket, on the street.
"Do you know where they are going? " I asked.
"To the New York airport, j.f. Kennedy. "
"we can still reach them! Come on!" I almost shouted before dragging him on the passenger seat.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
The van was silent for some minutes, the only noise coming from the engine running.
"why are you helping me?"
"wouldn't you do the same?" I asked as it was obvious.
"these days people are too worried about finding the perfect picture to post on Instagram , or to chat on Facebook with people that they don't even know. They walk around with their phone under their nose, without realising the fact that they are losing the beauty of this word. Most people probably didn't even noticed you, and, if they did, they don't care enough. "
I glanced and saw that he was staring at me, mouth open, pretty startled about my words.
"thank you" was all he said.
