On the other side

Sidharth

"Get out of here!" I heard my dad yell through the ear piece. That can't be good.

"Why? Where are you?!" I ask, Parth looking at me as we wait together for information.

"We're surrounded. Please, get out of here. Your mother and I'll be fine. You need to leave or everyone's dying tonight" my dad says but I knew he probably wouldn't make it out.

I didn't just have me to think about. It was parth, mahi and the rest of the mafia family. I couldn't go against my dad's wishes.

"Okay boss" I say, hoping he'll make it out. My parents are tough.

"See you on the other side" were my dads final words before Parth and I left for the cars, as did everyone else. We drove, leaving the building swormed by the enemies.

"They'll be okay, right?" Parth asks and I take a deep breath. Hearing the gunfire as we drive away.

I can't say for sure but the amount of men ranjeet had was unexpected but as the future boss I can't show emotion or weakness. I can't tell my little brother that our parents may not make it back.

"Yeah" was all I said, blocking out any other noise. I knew I just lied to my brother and every other man in that car.

I knew deep down that that was the last time I talked to my father. The last time I heard his voice, tonight was a night of grieving for my father, a powerful man and his amazing wife. My mother.

Don't take my slience for weakness. On the inside I'm already planning, strategising. Getting ready for vengeance of my parents spilt blood.

See you on the other side.

See you on the other side.

See you on the other side.

If he meant the other side as in death he was right. A week later and another funeral we were attending. My sister gave me the cold shoulder, she always kept her emotions inside but I knew we were all walking on thin ice. Any moment and she'd break, bursting into tears.

We all were.

They both were so much more than that. They were fighters and lovers. They were the perfect example of true love, a prime example for the mafia world.

Some say love makes you weak but it's the heartbreak and fear from ever finding love and happiness that makes you weak. You're going to die one day, whether it's tomorrow or in ten years. My parents always told me 'why fear the inevitable and die alone?' I knew they died proud, happy and in love so why would I ever think love took them from this world.

Took them from us.

At least they're together up there. They've always had each other and my mother was a firm believer in 'everything happens for a reason' so I know she's looking down and one day I will see them on the other side.

...

The gunshots rang in my ears and I instantly knew I was shot as a warm liquid ran down my arm and the sharp pain of the bullet lodged in my shoulder restricted me.

I heard a scream and snapped back to reality and saw shehnaaz, pale as a ghost, I think quick and push her to the ground, hoping I didn't hurt her too bad.

I pull out my gun and the black SUVs with my men who had been following me this whole night came to a blunt stop and men got out with guns. Shooting at the car that was driving by. I couldn't really focus because my main fear was shehnaaz, is she alright?

"Shit" I curse as I turn around and bend down so I'm close to her. "Are you okay? Are you hit?" I ask and she shakes her head frantically as the shooting comes to a stop and I hear shouting.

My men have them.

"Okay, take deep breaths. We need to get out of here" I say and she nods,

I hold out my hand and help her shaken form up.

"Get those men to the warehouse and tell me anything you can about them" I yell at my men as they drag 2 unconscious bodies into the back of one of the cars. I saw a couple bodies by the dock and cursed.

I hear shehnaaz scream again from beside me and I look at her before looking at what she screamed at. My eyes widen as I realise she's looking at the 2 bodies.

"shehnaaz, breathe. I need you to breathe" I tell her and she shakes her head.

"No, blood. Body. Guns" she repeats. she's in a state of shock.

"shehnaaz, I know it's hard but focus on my voice." I tell her but she stumbled back slightly

I tried to stop her but a pain shot through my arm reminding me of my wound.

"I can't. Rishi, blood. Gun" she hyperventilates. Whose rishi?

"shehnaaz!" I yell as she falls back. I manage to catch her with my good arm but see she's passed out. Maybe that's whats best for the time being,

"lets go, call the doctor" I yell at my men as I stare at shehnaaz face, wiping a bit of blood off her cheek. "I'm sorry" I sigh.

I shouldn't have brought her into this.

"sidharth?" I hear sanket's voice as he enters my office. I look up at him, my arm in a sling and he sighs.

"She's still not awake but we know who those men are. We asked them...politely" he says and I raise my brow telling him to elaborate.

It's the next day, I got my arm checked and luckily the bullet didn't go in far and shehnaaz is still asleep in my bed. I got mahi to change her into comfortable clothes.

"They're ranjeet's men. Dev did tell us they were closing in but nothing happened by the shipments obviously because they were planning their attack elsewhere," he pauses, "They know about shehnaaz"

I curse. I should've had better protection or told her. Now that she's in my life, she can't get out. What have I done?

"Okay, I'll call dev and see what we can do. If you haven't already, kill ranjeet's men and dispose of them. Tell me when shehnaaz wakes up" I dismiss him and he leaves with a 'yes boss'.

Life's a fucking mess. How do I tell shehnaaz? What if she doesn't want to continue to see where this heads now that this has happened?

Not that I blame her.

Hours later and I'm still at my desk, haven't eaten, haven't slept. Only worked and worried. Shehnaaz's got me distracted and that's not what a mafia boss needs but I need her too.

A knock on the door made me snap out of it. "Come in" I say and advik enters, standing by the door.

"She's awake" he says. I nod and stand up, fixing my suit as I follow advik to my room.

"Just a warning, she's pretty distraught" he says and opens the door. I walk in and see shehnaaz sitting up in my bed with a pillow on her lap as she looks off into the distance.

Her hair was messily tied up, makeup
off thanks to mahi and though she was sleeping she looked exhausted. I heard advik close the door and shehnaaz must've too cause she looked up and made eye contact with me.

"who are you?" She whispered, I could barley hear her.

"Shehnaaz"

"who are you?!" She yells, scared and I take a deep breath.
