Year 845, Trost District

Only a few hours had passed since the events in Shiganshina District. The refugees whom fled in the boats now resided in Trost District. Wall Maria had been breached, and the titans overthrew the land between it and what I now knew was Wall Rose.

We had been guided into a couple of worn-down buildings. The soldiers who supervised us said something about them being old food reserves.

It had been dark by the time we arrived, so people crammed themselves into the buildings to get some rest.

I managed to find Armin, Mikasa and Eren as we all began to settle down. Mikasa and Eren both had a sense of deep sorrow around them, Eren's being more angry than anything.

It wasn't hard to figure out why. Mrs. Jaeger was nowhere to be seen, and I assumed the worst based on their expressions.

Armin was a little bit better. He and his grandfather curled up in a corner together as the former relayed the story to him. The latter simply nodded his head along and made sounds of agreement throughout.

I situated myself a short distance away, allowing them room to grieve. I hadn't known Carla for very long, so while I did feel sad, I had no emotional attachment to her.

Instead, I replayed the day's events in my head over and over again. From waking up with barely any memories to the attack of the titans in Shiganshina. I couldn't believe it had all happened in only a matter of hours.

Eventually, my eyes grew heavy and I closed them, quickly falling into a disturbed sleep.

A young girl ran through the street, her long black hair streaming behind her like ribbons caught in the wind. Piercing gray eyes flicked around, searching for something. The loose white dress she wore swirled around before falling back into place as she halted.

"Mama! I found the store you were looking for. It's around this corner." She exclaimed, tugging on the sleeve of a petite woman who looked fairly similar to the girl. The only difference was her shining hazel eyes, so bright they appeared almost amber.

"My, Rinjie dear. Thank you for finding that for me. Let's wait for your father to finish up here and then we can go."

As if on cue, a tall blond man approached the two females, his stormy gray eyes full of life.

"My lovely two ladies, are you ready to move on?" He asked, switching his small bag of groceries from one hand to another. His distinct brown armband slipped down his arm and he reached to fix it with his opposite hand.

The young girl, Rinjie, unconsciously touched her own armband, glancing up at her mother's as well.

This armband labeled all who wore them as "Eldians". Often called inhuman and "filthy-blooded".

What did we do to deserve this? The girl thought to herself, her cheerful demeanor gone. Are we meant to live as slaves our whole lives?

"Excuse me, sir, ma'am," A strange man walked up to the girl's parents, hands clasped behind his back. "Are you Johnathan and Anda Caine?"

"Y-yes, that is us," 'Johnathan' responded carefully, discreetly nudging his daughter behind him. "Can we help you?"

The man cleared his throat nervously. "Johnathan and Anda Caine, you are under arrest for treason against the Marley Government. Your sentence is to be banished to Paradis."
