Year 850, Interior of Wall Maria (Titan Forest)
Does he suspect there are more intelligent titans?
I need to talk to Armin about this.
I shot a hook up into Armin and Jean's branch and leapt up onto it just as flurry of loud sounds came from deeper in the forest.
I had turned my head to look through the trees but someone grabbed me and swung up into a higher branch of another tree.
"Damn bastard figured it out!" Jean panted as he let go of me. "Wow, it's turning into quite a tree climber!"
"So, it has the ability to learn... that's scary," Armin commented, landing on the branch beside us.
One of the titans that had cumulated at the base of the trees had shimmied its way up, using the trunks of the trees to use as hand and foot holds.
"Armin." I said, facing away from him. He made a questioning sound, letting me know he was listening. "Do you think that Commander Erwin knew that there were more intelligent titans?"
"I... I think so." Armin responded slowly. "Based on those sounds coming from the forest, I bet he had a plan to try and capture the Female Titan."
"And, no one else seems to know about it. So, Erwin must suspect that whoever is inside, is a member of the military. Which division, I don't know." I speculated further. "If he had told anyone else, it would be people that he trusts fully. People that would have absolutely no possible way of being a titan shifter."
Armin stayed silent, and Jean was quietly listening to our exchange. I finally turned around and looked at the former. His face was set in an uncomfortable and bothered expression.
Oh. I see now.
"Armin, you know who she is, don't you?" I hit the bullseye. His head shot up abruptly and he looked horrified, confirming my thought.
Bingo.
"Wait, wait, wait. Hold on a moment." Jean interrupted. "Does this mean there are humans within our ranks trying to destroy the walls?"
"By the looks and sounds of it, yes. That is correct." I leaned against the trunk of the tree, crossing my arms and resting my blades against the ground. "And it appears Commander Erwin has it all figured out, too."
"The existence of Eren and Rinjie both suggest that humans are controlling the titans." Armin explained, his hand resting on his chin as he pried further into his knowledge. "So, if we assume that the titans who are trying to destroy the walls are humans, and they are inside the walls, then the best course of action is to prevent them from inflicting any more damage to the walls. Furthermore, if we could capture them, we could finally gain the information the Survey Corps has been grasping at for years; the truth of what's beyond the walls!"
Beyond the walls, huh? How funny, I could tell them all about it. And why haven't I? What's stopping me from doing so?
Better yet, why should I? What do I gain from sharing my knowledge with these people. Paradis isn't even my true home. These people aren't relevant to my life.
