Today, you lost your cool.

After listening to Tony, who you considered your best friend, berate you for doing something dangerous on a mission. Something he would have done in a heartbeat.

"So I'm not allowed to make sacrifices for this team?! Fuck you, Tony!"

He'd stood there in his glorious suit of armour, glaring at you. No, glaring through you.

"I said you couldn't do something and you ignored my direct order! You could've gotten killed today because you're a reckless idiot!"

You sat there on the table, a burning rage in your eyes. A bloodied bandage covered the entry wound from a sniper rifle bullet. It should have killed you, but Tony had been there to save your life.

"If I hadn't done something, those people would have died! They were fucking innocent Tony! So what if I got shot?!"

Tony's jaw clenched. You'd been there for him through everything. Him becoming Iron Man, his difficult break up with Pepper, even the decision to keep her on as CEO of Stark Industries despite his anger.

His voice suddenly became deadly quiet. The only time you'd ever heard him like that was when he was threatening someone.

"You don't get to put your life on the line like that. You may not care if you die, but you have no fucking idea what it would do to the team."

The rest of the team was scattered around the Avengers Tower at this point. Getting patched up, debriefed, and some rest. Yet here you were, arguing with your best friend.

"The team? When have you ever cared about the team?! You're a loose cannon, you always have been! Besides, the team would be fine without me- hell, they'd be fucking grand!"

You snapped at him, gripping onto your waist where your wound burned viciously. You'd already been patched up, but the pain relief you'd been given barely did anything, and your wound kept on bleeding.

"Don't you dare," Tony suddenly leaned in closer, his suit whirring softly. "Don't you fucking dare make it seem like you're not a part of this team."

By this point, you'd had enough. You were tired, in pain, and emotionally fucked up. You shoved Tony back, which wasn't that far since his suit was heavy as shit. But it was enough for you to get off the table, stifling your pained cry.

He moved quickly to help you as you limped away, but you stopped him with a heavy strike against the shoulder of his suit. He stood there, watching you as you limped away.

Pausing in the doorway, you turned back to him. Tears were welling in your eyes, and you didn't have the strength to hide them.

"Careful, Stark." You whispered, leaning heavily on the doorway. "With that tone of voice, someone might actually think you care."

You then left, walking away to your room. The only thing you left behind was a bloody streak on the doorway and the shards of your broken heart.

A week later, you're still recuperating. The bullet missed your major organs but tore through plenty of muscle mass. It was incredibly painful to walk let alone run and jump like you would need to on missions.

But, so far, the Avengers hadn't been required. It was quiet in the tower for once, which felt abnormal.

You hadn't spoken to Tony since the fight. The others had come by to talk to you every so often, but each one of them could see that you were broken.
