Chapter 8: The Palismen

Somewhere in the woods, a portal opened up, and out stepped a bunch of coven guards, after which, came the Emperor of the Boiling Isles himself. "Find them," said Belos to his guards, "Bring them to me alive." The coven guards then ran off to find the wild witches. Behind Belos, a tiny little cardinal palissman hopped out of the portal and flew away. The cardinal flew towards a small blue-ish house. It then flew through an open window. Hunter looked at the little palisman. "What are you doing here?" he asked, "I told you to stay hidden in the castle!" The little cardinal nuzzled Hunter and tweeted. "They're what!?" he exclaimed. The cardinal turned into a staff and Hunter grabbed it. Hunter then ran out to where the others were. "Guys!" exclaimed Hunter, "We've got a problem!" "What's wrong?" asked Luz, who was holding Eda's staff. Owlbert hopped off of the staff and flew towards Hunter and his palisman. The cardinal flew off Hunter's staff and started conversing with Owlbert. Luz looked at them. "The Emperor's coven is here," said Hunter, "And it's only a matter of time before they find us." "My mom's at work," said Luz, "I'll text her and tell her that we won't be here when she gets back." Owlbert hopped into Amity's hands. Amity was confused. "I think since he can't be with Eda," said Luz, "He wants to be with you." "Me!?" exclaimed Amity, "But why not you? You're closer to Eda!" "Ask him," said Luz. Amity looked at the little owl. Owlbert rested his head against Amity's. Amity then understood. "I get it," she said, "I promise to take care of you." "He's your palisman now, Amity." Luz then grabbed her yellow bag. She felt something heavy in it. She opened it and saw a log of Palistrom wood.

"Hey kid!" exclaimed Eda as she burst through Luz's window. "We could've just gone through the door!" shouted King. Eda just shrugged it off. "Guess what we got ya!?" said Eda excitedly. Luz looked at the witch with confusion. Eda then held up a log. "Palistrom wood!" she exclaimed. "But isn't that super rare and heavily guarded?" asked Luz. "Yeah," replied Eda, "But let's just say that the Palistrom wood bank was robbed." "By us!" added King. Eda then handed Luz the rather light log. "Let me know when you're ready and we'll start carving," said Eda. "Thank you Eda," said Luz. Eda smiled and dropped back out of the window, taking King with her. Luz then slid the log in her yellow bag and laid down to go to sleep.

"And I think I have mine," said Luz. Hunter handed Gus his old staff. "Be careful when flying it," he said, "It's really hard to control sometimes." He then prepared his staff. "Hop on Willow," Gus said. Willow got on the staff with Gus and the rose off the ground. Hunter lifted off the ground as well. "Okay Amity," said Luz, "Owlbert is a little hard to control at first. Just take it slow." Amity rose off the ground slowly. "Good," said Luz, "Now, lead the others." "Where are we going?" asked Amity. "The one place the coven won't find us," replied Luz, "The mall." Memories flooded into Amity's mind. "Okay," she said, flying in the direction of the place she so desperately didn't want to go. "Don't worry," said Luz, "They won't bother us this time." Amity smiled softly. Hunter and Gus flew their staffs after her. Luz then pulled the log of Palistrom wood out and started carving. When they landed, Luz put the knife and the log back in her bag. "Let's go," said Luz, handing Willow her beanie. The five walked into the mall, Hunter earning a few stare because of the scar on his cheek. The witches found an abandoned store and sat down. "We should be safe here," said Amity. Luz got out her knife and continued carving. She carved out an owl. The owl then started glowing and turned into a rose quartz color. A staff appeared under the owl. It looked kind of like Owlbert, but more in the shape of a snowy owl. "I'm gonna call you Rose," said Luz. Amity smiled at Luz. The three palismen that were with them then got off their staffs and started conversing. "I think we might have a chance," said Luz.
