"Hey, Amelia. Noah's looking for you," Rachel told me, after school. She had come up to my room seconds after I heard the doorbell ring.

I sighed. Did I want to talk to him? No, not really. "Tell him I'm busy or something."

Rachel looked at me curiously. "Um... are you two okay?"

"Yeah, it's no biggie. I can just call him," I said. Not like I actually will.

"Okay."

The next Monday, Lauren, Sasha, and I walked into school together. This time, there wasn't a big crowd of people staring at us, which I was glad about. I went around, in front of Sasha and Lauren, and started to walk backwards.

"Are you guys free after school today?"

Sasha shook her head. "No, sorry. I have dance."

"Me neither. Work," replied Lauren.

"Oh, that's okay."

When I entered my homeroom by myself, a lot of people looked at me.

"Hey, Amelia. Is it true Lauren's your step-sister?" one girl piped up.

"Yes," I said, without looking at her. I quickly took a seat at my desk and got my uncompleted homework out. A few minutes had passed until Noah strolled into the classroom. I took a quick look at him but when our eyes met, I quickly turned away. I heard someone walk up beside me and when I looked up, I saw Noah.

"We need to talk," he said simply. Our classmates began to whisper.

I shook my head. But then, Noah grabbed my hand and thrusted me out of my seat. I pulled my hand away and glared at him.

"What are you doing? Don't you think we've said everything that needs to be said?"

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Esme walk in. I hurriedly sat back down and focused on my homework. Noah cleared his throat and casually walked back to his seat. Surprisingly, Esme didn't sit next to me. Instead, a girl named Hallie, who usually sat at the back corner, did.

"Esme requested for us to switch seats," she told me quickly.

"Did she request nicely?" I asked.

"She basically forced me, but it's okay."

Typical Esme.
