So I am OBSESSED with the song Butterflies by MAX and Ali Gatie. I think of Misty and Delia every time I hear it. I wanted to put it in a fic and this was the best thing I could come up with. I hope you all like it. I'm 6 years old in this fic (so let's just imagine that Butterflies came out in 2007 😄). The song is above to play. ❤🤍💛
I woke up to the sound of thunder booming outside my window, making me nearly jump out of bed. I whimper softly, holding onto my stuffed Spiderman as tight as I can, trying to ignore it as best I can. The thunder keeps booming louder and louder, making tears start streaming down my face. I get out of bed and run out of my room to Cordelia's. I open the door and walk in to see Cordelia and Misty asleep, her arms wrapped around Cordelia's waist while her head rests on Misty's chest. I pout and sniffle, wishing I was in between them while they held me and protected me from the scary thunder. I climb onto Cordelia's bed, crawling up to them and I shake Cordelia's leg. "Mommy? Dee, wake up!" She jolts awake and sits up, looking at me with worry and panic in her eyes.
"Sweetheart, what's wrong? Are you hurt? Is everything okay?" I shake my head and sniffle, holding my arms out to her. "I'm scared..." more tears fall down my cheeks and Cordelia immediately scoops me into her arms, holding me on her lap as she kisses my head and softly whispers in my ear. "Shhh, it's alright, sweetheart. It's just thunder. It's not going to hurt you. You're safe with us. I promise. Shhh..." Misty stirs awake and looks over to see Cordelia and me. "Dee? Is everythin' okay?" "Everything's alright, Misty. Go back to sleep..." Misty sits up and scoots closer to us and gently starts rubbing my back. "Hey, bug. What's wrong, sweet pea?" I turn my head to look at her and I say just barely above a whisper, "The thunder scared me..."
my bottom lip starts to tremble and I shut my eyes tight, trying not to cry more as I bury my face into Cordelia's shoulder. Misty frowns and runs her fingers through my hair then wraps her arm around me, pulling me into her chest. "Shhh, it's okay, bug. Me and your mama are here. You're safe with us." She slowly rocks us back and forth and starts softly singing in my ear.

🎶You could give me chills on a summer day... When we're layin' still, but ya make my heart race... Gonna keep me young when we're old and gray... I know that time moves on, but some things don't change... I won't stop gettin' butterflies, I get 'em every time I look into your eyes... You won't stop runnin' through my mind for the rest of both our lives... You give me butterflies...🎶 I relax in Misty's arms as she still gently sways us back and forth while she runs her fingers through my hair, making my eyes start getting heavy, and I slowly start feeling myself drift off as Misty ends the song. 🎶I keep on gettin'... Keep on gettin'... I keep on gettin' butterflies... I keep on gettin' butterflies... 🎶 The girls look at me to see I'm now fast asleep in Misty's arms, and she lays me down gently on the bed, making sure I don't wake up.
Misty looks back up to see Cordelia looking at her with a soft grin and tears in her eyes. "Dee, what's wrong?" "That was the most beautiful thing I think I've ever seen." Misty blushes and looks down at me. Cordelia lifts Misty's head up so she's looking into her chocolate brown eyes. "We should go back to sleep, hmm?" Cordelia whispers with a soft grin on her face. Misty nods and they both lay back down on either side of me. Misty wraps her arm around my front while Cordelia wraps hers around me from behind. She softly kisses the back of my head as they both fell asleep, holding me protectively for the rest of the night.
