As he stepped outside their house, Jeongguk immediately frowned. It was late in the afternoon and the sun was already setting behind the trees. He had fallen asleep in Taehyung's arms and had woken up without his mate.

Jeongguk could feel him but not near, as he would've expected. Taehyung was somewhere in the woods, standing on a cliff they went to quite often.

With a deep sigh, Jeongguk left the pack, waving towards the people bowing to him, then left to search for his mate.

He found Taehyung in the bright light of the sunset, sitting on the cliff and twirling some white flowers between his fingers as he hummed a song, a hand pressed to his belly. Jeongguk couldn't help the smile that made its way to his face at the sight — it was so peaceful and endearing.

He walked towards his mate with soft steps even if he knew that the other had felt him coming from miles. Jeongguk crouched, sitting next to him and dropping an arm around Taehyung so that the other could lean into his embrace.

When his mate finally looked up, Jeongguk felt like he was falling in love all over again.

"I wanted to let you rest." His mate mumbled before he leaned into Jeongguk's body more, probably already feeling the aftermaths of the sunset and the arrival of the night's cold air. "You've been so busy these days, caring for the pack and the children as well."

Jeongguk's whole body filled with warmth and pride at Taehyung's words. He would do anything to make him happy, even if that meant losing some hours of sleep so that he could rest more. Jeongguk knew Taehyung was tired, had been for a while, so during the last few days he had taken care of the children so that his mate could rest.

After all, it was his job as well. Their babies were going to present soon and, from the looks of it, they were both going to present as alphas. Jeongguk had never met twin alphas but he now knew — from his own experiences — that they were going to be a hassle.

"Don't worry about me. I can manage." He leaned down, pressing a kiss on top of Taehyung's head, then circled his arms around his waist, making his mate lean on him. "You need to rest more."

Taehyung didn't answer and, for a while, they just sat there, staring at the sunset and embracing each other's warmth.

They would've stayed more but the howl that echoed through the forest made both of them chuckle — Jimin was calling them, again.

Taehyung let out a loud chuckle before finally getting up from his spot and giving Jeongguk his hand.

"Let's go." He mumbled, his whisper merging with the silence around them. "Our family's waiting for us."

So Jeongguk got up, entwining his fingers with his mate's, their tattooed hands colliding perfectly into each other. Taehyung's arm was now covered in red lines as well, words only he and Jeongguk could understand, words written in a language only they could speak.

Words taken from their past lives, from their past together, a legacy to take into their future ones as well. Words neither of them would forget.

As they walked through the forest, back towards their family, their hands entwined and their tattoos perfectly aligned against each other, Jeongguk made sure to remember those words.

"Till I loved you I never lived"

He had told Taehyung those words before without realizing that it was indeed fate that had brought them to each other.

As he turned around to take one more glance at his mate, part of his own soul, Jeongguk found himself smiling.

Hiding and trying to run from the red string of fate was useless, he had realized.

Fate would always find its way back no matter how much someone hid.

"Why are you staring at me?"

With one last chuckle and one last kiss pressed to Taehyung's cheek, Jeongguk shifted, then let out a loud howl.

Maybe fate was not that bad.
