Shivers crept down Taehyung's spine as he, once again, looked at Jeongguk's tattoos, at his body and lastly, at his crimson eyes. He could see the resemblance between him and his mother now because both of them had the same deadly stare that could make people drop to their knees. Taehyung wasn't sure why Jeongguk was so keen on the idea of keeping his irises red in front of his parents but he hoped that the head alpha and the other powerful members wouldn't see his behavior as something rebellious and punish him for it.

Jeongguk's eyes never moved from his parents, not even when the oldest alpha of the pack stepped in front of everyone. He was a respected man and it could be seen in the way everyone dropped their gazes.

Everyone but Jeongguk, who was still shooting daggers towards his parents.

"Jeongguk, submit to your alpha. Your friends as well." The older man said and, finally, Jeongguk averted his gaze from his parents and looked at the man.

He bowed towards him, not in submission since his eyes remained red, but as a sign of respect. "I'm sorry, grandfather."

"He's not the one you should be saying sorry too. You're embarrassing your parents, you're embarrassing me, with your rebellious and childish behavior."

Jeongguk's father was angry, Taehyung could feel it in his voice and also in the aura around him. His eyes darted towards the man that was on the verge of stepping closer to his son but he found himself cowering in fear when an even stronger aura, a scarier one, overtook the air around him. He felt his own mother tremble next to him as well as they both watched Jeongguk's mother step in front, snapping her claws like she was trying to prove a point, like she was trying to scare Jeongguk into submission.

"Maybe you two should go inside for now." Taehyung's father mumbled, one of his arms being draped over their shoulders in an attempt to shield them from the powerful pheromones.

Taehyung knew that he should've went inside, that standing so close to someone with such an aura made his wolf anxious, but he couldn't leave. His eyes drifted towards Jeongguk and his heart skipped a few beats when their eyes made contact. The reaction was almost immediate, his whole body shivering in excitement due to the bond they shared. Jeongguk simply exhaled, probably affected by the bond as well, then turned his attention towards his, Taehyung might add, psychotic mother.

The woman was now in front of him and Taehyung was wondering if someone should've interfered before something bad happened.

"I was the one that raised you and I will not accept such behavior in my pack. If you want to be an alpha, be a rightful one after winning your place, Jeongguk. Right now you're just a child who's thinking too highly of himself so don't get your hopes up, baby." Even if her claws were out and her eyes were crimson, his mother still talked with a soft tone, leaning in so that she could lay a hand on her son's shoulder in an attempt to make him stop his act. "You wouldn't be able to win the fight now, Jeongguk, so stop your childish act and submit to your father and I."

Surprisingly, the boy smiled before bowing slightly in front of his mother.

"As you wish, mother. Now," he paused and Taehyung noticed the change in his voice before anyone else did. His lips quirked in a smile and his eyes drifted towards his father before his eyes were on the woman in front of him again. "step back and never force me to bow in front of you and dad again."

Taehyung, and the whole pack, gasped as they watched one of the most powerful alphas in the pack execute her son's command.

Jeongguk's lips weren't raised in a smile anymore and his brows were furrowed as he stared at his parents. From the way his eyes sparkled with emotions, not of excitement, Taehyung realized that something must've happened during the years he's been away because that man, the man that just forced his mother into submission and made her embarrass herself in front of her whole pack while smiling viciously, didn't look like the Jeongguk he remembered.

The Jeongguk Taehyung remembered used to love his parents so much that he cried when he found out he had to leave. His Jeongguk used to be so close to his mother that he'd sometimes be a victim of bullying because he was supposed to be an alpha, not momma's boy. The Jeongguk Taehyung used to know had a frail body and a bunny toothed smile, a cute laugh and an amazing soul.

But the man in front of them was nothing like the Jeongguk they all remembered. His frail body was now bulked with muscles and his skin was covered in tattoos Taehyung didn't even want to know the meaning of. His bunny toothed smile has turned into a devilish smirk and the love he used to carry for his parents seemed to have turned into something else.

"Jeongguk!"

The head-alpha's voice boomed around them, making Taehyung whine as he put his arms around his body. The sound of his voice, or maybe his anxiousness, made his mate turn his head around, looking at him and, for the first time since he's arrived, his eyes cleared of that crimson red and Taehyung was met with the brown irises he loved so much.

Jeongguk blinked a few times before he frowned, finally looking his parents straight in the eye and bowing. Those behind him exchanged a few looks but they still followed his lead, which proved that he was indeed looked upon by them, respected. After feeling him submit to their alpha, the whole pack seemed to let out a breath of relief because the thick air above them was finally gone and so were Jeongguk's fierce eyes. When the other looked back up at his parents, his mother even embracing him, Taehyung realized that he hasn't changed at all because that person, the one they were seeing at that moment, was the Jeongguk everyone knew, the doe eyed boy that loved his parents.

The red eyed man that sat in front of them a few minutes prior was his wolf, who was totally different from what Taehyung remembered. When they were younger, they used to shift and play around but Jeongguk's wolf was smaller at that time, less frightening. However, he understood the change because his own spirit wolf was now entirely different, weaker, sensitive, more caring.

The head alpha finally stepped towards his son, his arms wide open, but Jeongguk raised an arm, signaling for him to stop, which the man did, like he understood his son's request and the reason behind it. He turned around, smiling towards the pack, and Taehyung felt worry slip inside him as he watched Jeongguk take in a deep breath and tighten his fists.

"Everybody," the man's voice echoed and some people cheered around Taehyung, whose eyes were still on Jeongguk's pained face. "let's welcome our sons!"

And then cheers erupted around them but all Taehyung could see was the flinch of Jeongguk's body and the red swirling in his eyes.

He understood then.

He understood that his mate wasn't in complete control over his wolf.
