Taehyung was laying on the grass, his fingers twirling a small flower between them as he gazed at the sky above him, an image he used to watch daily while Jeongguk was trailing his fingers between his hair strands. Those memories were old now but he never forgot the feeling of his mate's touch or the scent he's started to love ever since they both shifted for the first time.

They were only 7 then, none of them realizing what the sparks they shared whenever they touched meant, none realizing why they needed to constantly be near each other. They were never told the reason and they never shared what was happening between them with other people, not even with their own parents since everyone was expecting Jeongguk, the son of the head alpha, to mate with an alpha girl and have purebred heirs in the future. As they grew older and found out more about the mating ritual they realized that they must've been each other's mates. It didn't exactly matter because, by the time they were sixteen, they were already aware of their feelings, already utterly in love with each other, aware of the fact that, no matter what, they were going to be mates, even if they weren't fated to be together.

As they were coming closer to their 18th birthday, Jeongguk being a year older, they were getting even more anxious. The older of the two was supposed to go to a training camp alongside the other young and promising betas or alphas while Taehyung, who was not born in a family of powerful alphas, was supposed to stay home and wait. They promised each other that they'll wait however long it took to be together again but Taehyung couldn't help the fear that crept onto his body as the day Jeongguk would have to leave came even closer.

Jeongguk was going to present as an alpha, everyone knew that. His whole heritage was purebred which made Taehyung even more anxious because his mate, his one and only mate, had to marry a girl that could offer him purebred heirs. He was aware that their relationship wasn't going to get them anywhere but there was still hope, hope that when Jeongguk will come back, everything will be alright.
