Sam's POV
It was 4 in the morning and the only reason I got up was to see Steve. Bucky and Steve aren't going to school today so I decided to drop by before school. It took a lot to get up that early but I managed. I walked to Steve's house and found the key under a stone. I unlocked the door and walked in. I flipped the light switch and all the lights came on. Steve was sleeping on the couch and Bucky slept on an air mattress next to the couch. I felt bad waking them up but I wanted to check on them. I walked over to Bucky and tapped him on the shoulder.
"What do you want Sam?" Bucky said half asleep.
"I just wanted to check in on you guys."
"At four in the morning?" He said questioningly as he looked at the clock.
"Well you guys aren't going to school today so I came by before."
"Why didn't you come by after."
"Because I didn't want to wait that long."
Bucky sat up and shook Steve.
"Hey Steve."
"Yeah Buck," he said probably barely awake.
"You gotta get up."
"But it's like 4 in the morning."
"I know but Sam's here and he wants to check on you."
Steve sat up. He still had a wrap on his shoulder.
"How are you?" I asked.
"Tired," he said accusingly.
"Yeah I'm sorry about that I just wanted to make sure that you were ok."
"I'm fine."
"that's good."
"I just got a little banged up."
"Are you going to use the wheelchair now?"
"I don't have much of a choice."
"That sucks."
"Yes it does."
My watch said four thirty so I would have to get back home pretty soon.
"Do you know when your coming back to school?"
"Probably in two days," Steve said yawning.
"Ok."
Bucky looked worried about Steve so he intervened.
"I hate to interrupt your conversation but Steve needs to get some sleep," Bucky said.
"Yeah sorry I'll come back later to check on you guys."
I headed out the door and walked home. It didn't take me as long to get ready as I thought so I had a couple extra minutes till the bus came. The bus seemed quite and empty without Bucky and Steve. I got off the bus and I was surrounded by football players.
"How's Steve," they all practically asked in unison.
"He's fine."
"What about Bucky?" They asked all chiming in.
"He's fine too," I said rolling my eyes.
"When are they going to be back?" One of the receivers asked.
"They'll be back in two or three days."
Everyone asked me how Steve was doing and after a while it got pretty annoying. Since Steve and Bucky were gone there was no one for me to hang out with. I decided at lunch to sit with Natasha and Clint instead of the football players. Then Tony and Bruce came over from the football players table to sit with us. Eventually Thor and Loki joined us too. We sat at the lunch table talking and laughing just like when we were in the hospital cafeteria. I thought I saw Natasha and Clint hold hands under the table but I couldn't really tell. We all decided to go to Steve's house after school. The day seemed slow and boring because Steve wasn't there but I got through it. I practically ran all the way to Steve's house when the bell rang. I grabbed the key under the rock and opened the door.
"Sam?" Bucky said making sure someone wasn't really breaking in.
"Yeah, where's Steve?"
"He's asleep on the couch."
"Still?" I asked concerned.
"No he got up and then he went back to sleep."
"Being injured must take a lot of energy out of him."
"He tried to use his crutches," Bucky said slightly annoyed.
"Even with the sling."
"Yup."
"Did it work?"
"Nope," he said with a chuckle.
"Is he ok."
"He got a cut on his leg but I fixed it up and he is a little disappointed that he has to be pushed around in the wheelchair."
"He'll get over it."
"Should I wake him up?"
"Yeah."
"K, watch this."
He pulled out a remote control and pushed a button. A loud ringing started through the whole house. It was so loud I had to cover my ears.
"Bucky!" Steve yelled.
"Yes."
"Shut it off."
"Not until you get up."
"I'm obviously up."
"I mean sitting in your wheelchair."
"Are you serious!" Steve shouted, obviously getting annoyed.
"Yes."
Steve slowly got up and switched from the couch to the wheelchair.
"Can you turn it off now?" Steve yelled.
Bucky pulled out the remote and shut the deafening noise off.
"Thank you," Steve and I both said in unison.
"Everybody is going to be here soon so I suggest you make yourself look presentable," Bucky said.
"Ok," Steve said rolling his wheelchair towards the bathroom.
"You two have quite a bond," I said laughing.
"You have no idea," Bucky said with a slight smirk on his face.
