~Ch. 2~
(Rabbit's POV)
I carried Lily inside, singing quietly to her. She looks at me with her innocent smile and eyes, urging for me to sing for her more. After she just saw me try to beat Greg's ass, she could use some innocence. I walk to her room quietly placing her down on the bed.
I sing, "When I feel blue don't know what to do, I look at you and I just say..."
With that I cross my eyes and make a fart noise and a rasberry tongue. Lily and I giggle and then I lean in, hugging her close and whispering, "Elaine says hi by the way."
"Jimmy?"
"Uh huh."
"Do you think Elaine likes you?"
I stoke my beloved little sister's hair, "As a friend? Of course."
Lily shook her head and sat up, "No. Does she like you boyfriend girlfriend like.?
I sat there awkwardly, twiddling my thumbs around each other. How was I supposed to answer that? I wasn't stuck in Elaine's shoes. I never knew what she felt or what. She didn't seem like the one to show much feelings for anyone.
I answer, wavering, "I...I don't know, baby. It's hard to tell if you're not Elaine."
"Oh okay then..." she yawned, eyes slowly drooping as she rubbed them.
I smile, and kiss her forehead, whispering, "Goodnight, baby, go to sleep."
Lily tucked herself under the covers and I wrapped her deeper in her quilt. It really makes me wonder why my little sister would want to know something like if Elaine actually is into me or something. But it's kinda making me curious though. Could she really have someone she's into? Fuck if that's the case, that'll definitely be something everyone's talking about.
~Next Day~
(Elaine's POV)
Hands still in my sweatspocket, I walk over to the lunch truck see if I can find Rabbit. Cause I knew he hated to eat the shit on that crappy ass truck, I bought him some McDonald's. Not that much better but still. I saw Rabbit, leaning against the side of the lunch truck and barely nibbling at his food. I walk over to him and he looks up at the sound of my footsteps, face with a difficult blur of emotions.
"Thought you had work," Rabbit says to me.
"Store's closed on Saturday." I say tossing the McDonald's bag to him.
Rabbit catches the bag, looks in it and says, "I've got lunch."
"But you always whinin' 'bout how lunch truck fucking sucks."
Rabbit shrugs and reaches in the bag pulling a french fry popping it into his mouth, "Thanks."
"Something wrong, Jimmy?" I ask, looking at him, his face stressed like last night before the Shelter.
"Yeah..." he mumbles.
"Still bitchin' about what happened at the Shelter last night?"
"Man shut the fuck up."
"Then what?"
"Just Manny ain't letting me have extra shifts cause I'm always late to work."
I lean against the truck next to him, "Want me pick you up and send you then?"
"Nah man," he said reaching into the bag for the Big Mac, "gotta just fix my mom's fucked up car-ah fuck."
"What?"
