CHAPTER 8. I DO STUPID THINGS FOR PLAYFUL GRUDGES

"OKAY, HI." FALLON TELLS Steven, as we all get off the car after reaching Paraguay.

"What are you doing?" Steven asks, shocked. "And how did you even get here?"

"Private planes." Fallon answers.

"Plural. Just don't ask." I add.

"We're here to prove that there's nothing you can do here that you can't do at home in Atlanta." Fallon tells him. "Together, with us."

"We're here for you, son." Dad starts, and then turns to look at Anders. "I'm not sure why he's here... taking advantage of a free vacation?"

"Ah! This is not a vacation, this is work." Fallon cuts in. "It's fun work for Steven." She continues, awkwardly.

"I think I just discovered a new kind of lizard." I hear Max's voice, as he stumbles out of the car, fumbling with his sunglasses.

"You and me both brother." Sam yells at him.

Steven looks at Max, and then to me, and the to Fallon.

"I give you a week before you're back on that air-conditioned plane." Steven tells us.

"A week?" Fallon asks. "I thought the whole point of this group operation was to build something in, like, a day."

Before anything else could be said we hear a mountain car rumbling and it stops near us and Alexis pops out, making all of us roll our eyes.

"Thank you." Alexis tells the driver.

"This is a nightmare." Steven mumbles.

"Oh, no, no, no." I tell Steven, shaking my head. "You can wake up from a nightmare."

"How did you even find us?" Fallon asks Alexis.

"Maternal instinct." Alexis tells us.

"Well, then why did it bring you here?" I ask her sarcastically.

"And Sam's Instagram." Alexis adds, and walks towards Steven. "Steven, you can't run away from me. No matter what it takes, I will be here for you in your time of need." She licks her finger and wipes a stain on Steven's cheek. Then, she turns to us. "Now, who's ready to build some houses?"

"YOU NEED TO GIVE Steven space." Sam tells Alexis, while he feeds a alpaca.
