'How many teams are left?' Clem asked.
'Kaminari's, Uraraka's and Midoriya's teams are unharmed.' Saffron said. 'Jirou's team isn't recovering anytime soon, and Iida's team seem to be stuck.'
'We aren't fighting Kaminari's team.' Viola vetoed. 'Electricity, ice and saliva? Sensory nightmare. We haven't been cleared to bring any fidgets or softies so a meltdown would be pretty unfortunate.'
'Softies?' Ivy wondered.
'She means our weighted blanket and plushies.' Ruby said. 'Don't know where she got the name from, but it fits.'
'I agree with Viola.' Miyuki said, shuddering. Yaoyorozu gave her an odd look and she smiled reassuringly.
"We'd like to avoid Tsu's team." Miyuki informed them.
"Yes. I'm in favour of that decision. While Tsu's combat ability is admirable, I'd prefer not to be in contact with tongue." Yaoyorozu said, wringing her hands
"Ah. Bad vibes?" Viola said. Momo giggled.
"I wouldn't put it like that, but yes, I find her tongue unpleasant sensory wise."
"Todoroki and Kaminari-kun are also formidable fighters. Tactically, retreat is our best option." Tokoyami agreed.
"Aw, that's sweet, Toko." Kaminari cooed, sparking with electricity as he readied an attack.
Miyuki rushed to pull Tokoyami behind her, only to be kicked in the side by Tsu.
'Really? Again?!' Viola swore.
"Good work." Todoroki said, sending a volley of ice at Yaoyorozu. She blocked with her bo-staff, staggering back.
"Sorry, ribbit, but we have to take any advantage we can get." Tsu said, pulling her attention back, before grabbing Miyuki with her tongue, pinning her arms to her sides.
Miyuki writhed, kicking wildly and shaking her whole body. Her breathing quickened and she felt tars prick her eyes.
Miyuki stopped, falling limp in for a moment, before Viola screamed.
Tsu, startled, loosened her hold and Viola took the opportunity to dig her nails into the slimy appendage. The girl let out a pained croak, pulling her injured and bloody tongue back.
Viola charged, grabbing the girl by the hair and slamming a knee into her stomach. Tsu cried out.
"You fucking heroes are all the same." She said, throwing Tsu at Kaminari when he tried to attack, sending them both to the floor.
"Rayan-?" Tokoyami questioned as she strode toward the two knocked-down students.
Viola felt a sudden chill and stepped back, an ice wall erected only inches away from her face. Todoroki stood to her right, a bruise blooming on his face (likely from Yaoyorozu), leaning against his ice.
"What are you doing?" He asked.
"What was your teammate doing?" She sneered. Yaoyorozu stood a couple paces behind him, looking between the two, unsure whose side to pick.
"Fighting. This is a combat exercise." He said.
"So am I." She grinned, and ran at him.
He sent a barrage of ice toward her, and instead of evading, she leapt, landing atop and running along the ice. He shifted his weight to the other side and suddenly there was fire. She felt her foot sink an inch but didn't falter, not even when she felt the heat licking at her face, a blazing fire blocking her way.
Todoroki panicked when she didn't stop, moving to put out the flames, but they were gone, slipping from his grasp and into Miyuki's. A cage of crystallised flames rose around him, rising above his head and blocking off all escape.
"You aren't getting out of there." Viola taunted when he activated his fire again. "It's made of fire opal; its melting point is well above anything you could generate."
She stepped forward, reaching her arm through the bars to grab his team's flag, hanging from his pocket. She didn't flinch as she plunged her hand and arm in the heat, grabbing the rag and pulling it out in one swift motion.
"Even the flags are fire-proof huh." She muttered, stuffing it away. "Good to know where our good ol' tax payer dollars are going to."
"Dollars?" Yaoyorozu questioned. Viola waved her off.
"Eh. Sounds better with dollars instead'a yen. It's a more common saying in America."
Yaoyorozu went to speak, but was cut off by All Might announcing the end of the exercise. Miyuki collapsed the cage around Todoroki, and Viola re-joined her teammates to start heading back.
"Oh right, it's Viola right now. 'Yuki got overwhelmed and escaped back." She said. The two nodded, before Yaoyorozu voiced her earlier cut-off question.
"'In America'? I had been wondering because of your surname, but where are you from?" Yaoyorozu asked.
"We're from Japan, but our Ma is Palestinian. We took her name when she adopted us." Viola said. "I'm pretty sure we're all Japanese. We went on a few trips to America with our birth parents when we were young, so that's probably why so many of us have English names. Positive association, and all that jazz. Oh! And the hero who saved us was Asian-American, now that I think about it."
"Hmm. I suppose it makes sense that your brain would latch onto the few good memories of your parents." She said before back-tracking. "Well, that is- there aren't many ways someone could experience trauma so young, so I just assumed- I don't want to pry or be insensitive."
"I don't mind talking about our parents. The others are iffier about that though." Viola said. "That said, the only bad thing our parents did was die. It just brings up bad memories for those who were there or the others who get sad thinking about them."
"You talked about being saved by a hero. Did your parents die in a villain attack by any chance?" Tokoyami asked.
"No. That..." Viola looks to the side. "That came later." She took a breath. "It was an accident. A gas leak, or something. There was a fire. We got out, they didn't."
"I'm sorry." Yaoyorozu said softly. "I shouldn't have brought it up, even if you said it was okay."
"Nah, it's fine. No harm, no foul. You were curious and I'm really the only one who will talk about it." Viola shrugged. "'Sides, that's not what I was upset about. I wasn't there, you know? I appeared much later. Didn't exist at the same time as them, so it's hard to be sad."
"Still..." She said.
"'Told ya already, it's fine." Viola grinned. "Now come on, I wanna go piss off All Might. He's gonna wanna scold me for excessive force or some shit, the hypocrite, bet."
Momo gave a small amused smile, Dark Shadow cackling.
