The next morning, I got breakfast per usual, but the whole time I was thinking about last night. About Tony. When I put my bowl in the sink, I caught Valentina looking at me. "What?" I asked defensively. "What happened last night, Freska?" I blushed. "What do you mean? Nothing happened..." She didn't look convinced. "I might just be some chica from Mexico, but I'm not stupid." I sighed. No getting out of this one. "ok, fine! But not here!" She followed me to her room, and I told her everything. Once in a while she gasped, laughed, or asked me what a word meant. At the end, she smiled and hugged me, tightly. "I'm so happy for you, Chica! I knew it would end well!" "You can't tell anyone, ok Valentina?" She nodded and put out her pinky. "Promesa!" She pinky swore. I hugged her again. It was so nice to tell somebody. "Cherry! School!" Mom yelled from downstairs "Oh! We gotta go! Thank you, Valentina!" I grabbed my phone and backpack from my room and headed to school.
In math class, Jadee passed around the graded tests to their owners. When she got to my desk, she set down my test, along with a sticky note. I looked at my score, 98%, and then at the sticky note. It was from Jadee. Pretending to put my test in my backpack, I read it. "Hey, why arn't you answering my texts?" I turned it over and wrote "I cant have my phone in class" then gave it to her as she passed by me to give another student his test. soon, she passed another note to me on a blue sticky note.
"So... You seem happy..."
"Yeah. Last night was great!"
"And..."
"What?"
"Tony was great, you mean."
I blushed.
"Yeah... He was..."
"Well, Talk to him!"
"What?!"
"Do you have his number?"
"Yeah..."
"Then CALL HIM!"
This she wrote in all capital letters and underlined it.
"It's not that simple... I've never called a boy before. Besides, I'm not allowed to."
I watched her unfold the note and read it. She looked over and shrugged. Then, she started laughing. "Jadee?" The teacher asked, stopping his writing on the large white board. "Care to share what is funny?" Jadee looked at the teacher and smiled. "It's just funny that you can do those fractions so well, and I'm still learning. You are such a good teacher!" She lied with ease. I would have freaked out, but she was popular, and had a way with teachers. "Oh, why thank you, Jadee!" He smiled and went back to the lesson.
"What is funny?" I wrote and passed it.
"Your face looks like you just ate something spicy! You are blushing like mad!"
Was I? She looked at me.
"You are in love, arn't you. You are in love with Tony!"
I read it and bit my lip. Was it so obvious? I winked at Jadee. Suddenly, she started caughing and gasping. We had planned this in case of emergency. The whole class looked at her as she choked. I raised my hand and spoke "Mr. Ark! Jadee is having an Athsma attack and she needs her inhaler that is in her backpack! I'll take her to get it!" Jadee stood up and nodded. "Oh, my! Hurry! Thank you, Cherry! Take the hall pass!" I jumped up and helped a sputtering Jadee out of the room and into the hall. She cleared up instantly. "OMGOSH!" She squealed. "You LOVE him!" I blushed and nodded. I told her all about how I tripped and he caught me, then called me "Pretty" and gave me his number. She hugged me and jumped up and down. "Yes! Thats awesome!" She bit her lip and smiled. "Actually, Jackson and I are going on a date tomarrow." I gasped. "Jadee, that is awesome! Congrats! What are you doing?" She shrugged. "I don't know. Hanging out." A teacher came out of the bathroom and scowled at us. "You two should be in class. Do you have a hall pass?" I healed it up to her, and she instructed us to get back to class. We giggled and walked back to class.
I was sitting at my desk doing homework, when my phone buzzed. I picked it up, expecting Jadee, But displayed on the screen was "Tony Rodrigo". I gasped and almost dropped it. He was calling? If my parents heard me... I looked around and ran into the garage, the phone still wringing. Porg cuddled up on my lap, and I answered.
"Hello?"
"Hey, It's Tony. Cherry?"
"Yeah! Hey!"
"Hi! So, my parents decided that I'm starting school this Monday. I'd be good to have a friend who has been here a while to let me know how things work."
"Oh, I can help you! Wanna meet up sometime?"
"Yeah! Great, are you free tomarrow?"
"Yeah! Where do you want to go?"
"Well..."
I thought a second.
"Do you like Marvel?"
"Yeah! Love it!"
"Do you wanna watch Iron Man with me and my friend?"
"I'd love to!"
"Cool! She's on a date, too! This can be a double date!"
"Awesome! Where should we meet?"
"I'll send you an adress."
"Sounds good. See you then."
"Yeah! Thanks for last night, by the way."
"Thank you."
"See you."
He hung up. I sat there in awe. Did we just arrange a date? I think we did. I stood up and shouted "YES!" I was going on a date! A real one! I couldn't get to my vent fast enough.
