Fluff

The sisters decide to watch a scary movie. Let's say it did not end very well

This time, it had been Cassandra who came up with a genius plan, if watching Coraline at midnight is considered a genius plan that is. The three sisters had snuck into Cassandra's room and made a blanket fort by grabbing two chairs and draping a blanket over them. Then Daniela got angry because she did not fit entirely in the fortress they had built. Being the eldest, Bela took it upon herself to sneak back to her room and grab a third chair. On her tippy toes she snuck back to Cassandra's room and rebuilt the blanket fort, this time big enough for all three of them.

Being squished between Cassandra's shoulder and a chair leg, Bela felt quite miserable. The fear of the tablet being too loud and one of the maids hearing them being up this late, or even worse, Mother hearing they were up this late at night, was constantly in the back of her mind. A thought flying around her head like an annoying mosquito. To add on top of that stress, Cassandra failed to mention Coraline would be this scary. From the beginning the movie made her feel uncomfortable, but now the Other Mother wanted to sew buttons over Coraline's eyes, Bela was ready to admit she was scared. Cassandra made a joke about how the Other Mother was like Mother Miranda, but Bela did not hear it. Her heart was racing in her chest and she hoped the movie would be over soon. To her dismay, it got even worse.

The three of them had been silently chanting for Coraline to find all three the ghost children's souls, when they discovered the Other Mother was not a mother at all, but a terrifying spider monster. Bela shut her eyes and covered her ears as Daniela screamed in fear. The scream was abruptly stopped Bela could only imagine it had been Cassandra's hands who covered her sister's mouth. The sight of Coraline crawling through the Other Mother's web would haunt all three sisters for a long time.

Daniela, obviously the most shaken from the scary movie, proposed to sleep together in her room. To which Cassandra responded she was not afraid at all and preferred to just sleep in her own room. Bela advised against it as well, afraid Mother would find out about their midnight plan.

Now, Bela found herself wide awake in her bed, terrified of going to sleep for she was afraid she would encounter the nightmarish spider monster in her dreams. On the odd occasion she would dose off, floorboards creaking under the weight of Mother Miranda knows what would shake her awake again.

It happened again, and this time, Bela could swear she heard light footsteps running past her door. She hid under her blanket as she listened for the spider monster walking outside of her bedroom. The hallway was silent, but the spider would be walking on the ceiling to avoid the creaking wooden floor. A door opened and closed, and Bela swore it was her bedroom door. Tears streamed down her cheeks as she realised the spider monster had entered her room and came to eat her.

She was ready to accept her fate and die, hoping she could still the monster's hunger and would spare her sisters' lives, when she remembered that Mother taught them to never give up. Adrenaline rushed through her body as Bela threw her blanket away and dashed for the door. Shadows in the shape of the monster were cast on the wall but Bela paid no mind to it. Her hand turned the doorknob as the rest of her body shifted to a swarm of flies. She flew down the hallway to Mother's bedroom. Mother would protect her and slice this spider monster to ribbons so thin even the lightest breeze would blow them away.

Bela opened Mother's bedroom door swiftly but silently. She then walked to the edge of the bed and looked at the sleeping silhouette of her body. She usually pretended to be brave and strong in front of her sisters and Mother, the eldest always bears that burden, but this time she could not pretend any more.

"Mother..." Bela said, barely audible. "Mother, may I please sleep with you? I am scared."

Mother groaned and shifted a bit more to the middle of the bed, hoisting up the blanket so Bela could crawl under it.

"Did you have a nightmare, sweetheart?" Mother spoke softly when Bela curled up against her. Mother's inviting warmth immediately engulfed Bela, calming her a bit. She felt safe and protected, like nothing could ever harm her here, because Mother would always be there to shield her from danger.

"There was a spider monster, Mom. It was really big and it wanted to eat me." Tears were streaming down Bela's cheeks again, wetting Mother's nightgown where Bela had pressed her face against it.

Mother wrapped her arm around Bela and started rubbing comforting circles on her back. "Now, now... This scary spider monster is not here. I will protect you, my little Bela. I will always protect you."

The next morning, Bela woke up, still wrapped in Mother's warmth. She cuddled into Mother's side some more. A smile grew on her face involuntarily. Mother's arm, which was still wrapped around Bela, hugged her closer. She lay there for a while, until she heard someone's stomach rumble. It was not hers nor Mother's. Confused, Bela sat up and looked at the opposite side of the bed, behind Mother she saw Cassandra laying sprawled out on 'her half' of Mother's gigantic bed. At first, she did not see Daniela anywhere, but her red hair peaked out from the blankets. Her youngest sister was glued to Mother's side, almost completely hidden by the blanket.

"So, which scary movie did you watch last night?"
