I understood the beat now, it was playing loudly over the speakers of the club, how could I not? I helped Sarah install LED lights onto the stage that had permanently been on purple, Karl's favorite color.
"That's great." Karl said into the microphone, giving Sarah a thumbs up. "Alright, this song is for my wonderful boyfriend." He winked at me. "Because not only does he come to every performance of mine." He was cut off by loud whistles. "He also is staying up late even though he has a basketball game tomorrow." Everyone clapped at I smiled at him. "So, love you but also when we get back to my apartment your going to take care of my drunk self.""Always." I yelled over the cheers as people threw cans of beer onto the stage for Karl.
The beat came on again and Karl grabbed the microphone stand, shaking his head from side to side.
"Half past twelve
And I'm watching the late show in my flat all alone
How I hate to spend the evening on my own."
He started strong, his mouth opened a little as he sung loudly across the purple bar.
"Autumn winds
Blowin' outside my window as I look around the room
And it makes me so depressed to see the gloom
Is there a man out there?
Someone to hear my prayer."
He dragged out prayer, making it sound beautiful with the guitar and piano.
Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! A man after midnight
Won't somebody help me chase the shadows away
Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! A man after midnight
Take me through the darkness to the break of the day."
There was another long pause with a whistling noise and more piano.
Movie stars
Find the end of the rainbow with a fortune to win
It's so different from the world I'm living in
Tired of TV
I open the window and I gaze into the night
But there's nothing to see, no one in sight
Is there a man out there?
Someone to hear my prayer
Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! A man after midnight
Won't somebody help me chase the shadows away
Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! A man after midnight
Take me through the darkness to the break of the day
Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! A man after midnight
Won't somebody help me chase the shadows away
Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! A man after midnight
Take me through the darkness to the break of the day." This pause for the guitar solo he reached down and grabbed a can of beer off the ground, poking a hole in it with his thumb before shot gunning it.
"Is there a man out there?
Someone to hear my prayer
Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! A man after midnight
Won't somebody help me chase the shadows away
Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! A man after midnight
Take me through the darkness to the break of the day." The whistling noise continued as Karl finished.Everyone cheered and clapped and he picked up another beer, drinking all of it before falling back into two peoples arms who pushed him back up. He cheered and jumped around, drinking another beer.
"I love you." He pointed at me.
He was mine, all mine. I'm pretty sure if people didn't start pushing me toward him I would've just sat there all night and admired him, his black converse and oversized green vintage hoodie with the beige collar folded down, the black shorts that were just barely visible under the hoodie. And, the two green butterfly clips in his hair that finally showed up today. "I love you too, gorgeous." I lifted him up by the backs of his thighs, kissing him passionately and tasting the cheap IPA on his tongue.
Nick Armstrong on how he met Karl Jacobs and what's happening in the future.
"How are you today?"
"I'm doing great."
"How is it being know as the best boyfriend on the internet right now?"
I smiled and nodded. "It's really cool. I think Karl really deserves all the attention he's getting."
"What do you mean by that?"
"I mean, he's been working his ass off on writing new songs and performing at Sarah's, he really deserves everything." A cameraman was giving me a look. "It's been five seconds and I'm already fucking it up- oh my god." I covered the microphone on my shirt and slapped a hand over my mouth.
