The moment they arrived just outside of town Maro tensed up. He could hear people and it made his fingers clench. He let go of her hand, he stared intently towards the town. He released Giovanni letting him take flight, he kept Maude inside the tattoo on his right collar bone. She would not want to be found wandering around a town.
"Put your hood up." She mumbled to him. "Follow me." Maro did as she said, he moved to her side. He stuck close to her as they entered town. She took him all around the town as they stuck to secluded paths and quieter streets, they eventually stopped at a small park in the center of the town trees were scattered through it. Bushes lined the pathways and flowers decorated the long grass between the walkways. Some paths had benches, some were busy and others were not. The ones leading further into the park were less busy so she pulled him down one of the less busy ones.
"Where are we going?" He kept his voice low, it resembled a growl. He was tense and uncomfortable out in the open. He had kept his head down around the people they did see.
"Somewhere where there are less people. And a place where you can see the whole town." She whispered to him.
"Let's hurry." He grumbled while he looked around as he tried to make sure no one was following them.
She grabbed his hand and led him down a side path to the one they were on, a few more twists and turns and they ended up in the middle of the park. It was very secluded, not many people went there the path opened up into a clearing with a large oak tree. It appeared to have a building built in the branches. "We're here." She sighed, her golden gaze settled on the building. The trunk of the tree had wooden steps that led up to the entrance of the building.
Maro was baffled, "why would they do this?" He asked quietly but pulled Constance to the ladder. He pushed her ahead of him, he still felt uneasy and wanted to go up into the tree as quickly as possible.
"I don't know, I moved here about six years ago. This town was built way before I was born. I got to renovate the cottage a little bit when I moved in." She shrugged as she quickly climbed the ladder to the main floor of the house.
He followed her up as soon as her feet were just above his eye level. When they were up in the tree, he looked around and frowned. He still didn't understand why someone would do this. The inside didn't have much, a few chairs scattered about and big openings were made on each wall. Maro went to one of the openings, he realized as he gazed out at the buildings and forest around it that his confusion disappeared. He understood a bit more about why someone had put the house there. He leaned on the window, the breeze blew his hood off. He didn't mind, his tenseness eased as the wind tossed his hair around.
"It's a pretty view." Constance said, her gaze rested on him. He glanced back to see her looking at him. Maro stood up before he glanced back out the window.
"We shouldn't stay." He told her as he pulled up his hood again. He could see people on the street below.
"I want to take you to the book shop. We can go and order your grimoire." She started to head back out of the building. His excitement peaked immediately.
"They can get me one? When?" He asked, he carefully followed her down the tree.
"It would depend on the kind you want, size, bindings and jewels all that determines it but usually it would take a few days to a week."
Maro thought about it, he wasn't sure what he wanted exactly. "Let's go." He took her hand, he pulled her with him. That was until he realized he didn't know which way it was.
She laughed a little and took the lead, they went through the streets and alleys winding through various buildings and after passing one shop, another guy's voice called out to Constance. Her whole demeanor seemed to change at it. Seeming to radiate irritation. Maro dropped her hand as he glanced around to see who had spoken, nervous. He carefully kept his hood up, it shadowed his face.
