Constance stared at her plate of food she had abandoned earlier. Her stomach was in knots with worry but she knew that she had to be strong for Maro. Her hands rested unconsciously on her stomach as she stared at the food. She couldn't understand why she would suddenly get sick. She felt extremely off. There was something different but what.

The next day they packed to head north again. Maro was quiet that morning, not saying much. The magic he had learned had clearly taken a physical hold on him. The dark bags under his eyes, his paler skin tone and her green eyes that used to be so bright were always a dark green.

Before Deacon left he pulled Constance outside. A small smile on his face. "Are you ready?" He asked softly. She felt extremely appreciative of his help these few months, she even made an unexpected friend.

"I believe so." She smiled at him lightly. "Thank you for all the help Deacon."

"You don't have to thank me. Helping you was because I wanted to." Deacon's smile had quirked to the side for a moment before his face settled seriously. "Look Constance. You're my friend now, normally I don't say anything about people's personal life but..." he rubbed the back of his neck with a sigh. "Have you even realized the possibility that the reason why you don't feel good right now is because you're pregnant?"

Constance's whole body froze, her mind came to a sudden halt and memories of the last few months rushed through her mind as if everything finally made sense. "H-how is that even possible?" She whispered in shock as she stared at Deacon with wide eyes.

Deacon laughed, it was a mixture of surprise. "Constance... Do I have to tell you where babies come from? Come on, I know you didn't learn that sound barrier spell just to have petty fights." He smirked, seeming amused now.

Constance gasped and her hands flew to her stomach. "I-I had no idea! There aren't a lot of books on the subject where I live..."

Deacon chuckled, "Yeah well, live and learn, right? I expect to be the godparent you know?" Deacon grinned now, his brows raised as if waiting for her to disagree.

"Of course! You'd protect them if we could not." She nodded at him and an excited grin started to replace the confusion on her face.

"I want you both to be safe." Deacon's humor disappeared in a flash after he said that, his voice dropped to whisper. "You come to me if this trip goes wrong in any way... Constance." He said her name sharply, seriously. "That means anything with Marocelli. Understand?"

"I understand." She nodded at him with a serious look now settling in her face.

Deacon nodded, "Good." He snapped his fingers and a necklace appeared in his hand. There was a small blue bead on a long brown cord. "Hide this. This will tether you to me." He explained under his breath as he placed the necklace into her hand. His eyes flickered behind her, it was obvious Maro was watching. Deacon looked back down at her, smiling, his tone going normal. "Don't forget to use the visualization we talked about in your string spell. I would do it before you leave here." He advised.

"Thank you again for everything Deacon." Constance nodded at him, her hand tucked the necklace discreetly in her inner robe. Deacon grinned again and he disappeared, tethering away. She turned around to Maro and a wave of utter happiness washed over her. There's a mini us in me. She thought with a soft smile.

Maro had horror on his face, he was bracing himself on the wall with his hand. His face looked paler than normal. Constance looked at him with slight confusion. "Is everything okay?" Her heart felt like it was beating faster and a slight sliver of fear ran down her spine. What if he doesn't want it? She had to hold back tears from forming.
