Long Overdue

You act all so tough in front of me

Tirelessly telling me to do the right thing

You raise your voice for me to hear

But all you receive are shrugs and smirks

You hold your temper when I glare at you

Hurting me is the last thing you want to do

You try to talk in the gentlest way possible

But what I love to do is break all your rules

You work so hard to pay for my schooling

What you have in mind is my best interest

If you are able, you’ll give whatever I ask

But what you get in return is my disrespect

Now that I hear you crying and praying for me

Makes me realize how hardhearted I’ve become

I never see the things you were doing for me

Because all I care about is to get whatever I want

I’m sorry Mom and Dad for being so stubborn

I’m sorry for yelling at you when I am mad

I’m sorry for blaming you for what I am now

I’m sorry for thinking you never understand

I’m sorry for the harsh words I throw at you

I’m sorry for not listening to your instructions

I’m sorry for acting so arrogant before you

I’m sorry for rebelling to get your attention

I’m sorry for not seeing how much you care

I’m sorry for always giving you a hard time

I’m sorry for everything I’ve done against you

I’m sorry if I’m the reason why you often cry

I know this is long overdue

But let me say this to you

“Mom and Dad, I love you.”

To all the young people out there:

We are not always the ones who are being misunderstood. It is time for us to be sensible enough and treat our parents with respect. You may tell me, "Oh, girl, you don't know what you're saying. My parents are terrible." Well, let me tell you this, no matter how bad they may be for you, they are still your parents, the authority God has placed above you. Instead of hating them, why don't we pray for them instead? Besides, our parents, no matter how terrible they may be, are the reason why we are alive. Imagine how their faces glowed and their smiles grew wide when you were born. Imagine how grateful they were to God for bringing an angel - you - into their lives. Imagine how delicately they held you in their arms and how much joy you brought to their hearts that time.

They love you.

And I know, you do love them, too. :)
