Would You Rather Go?

It would have been nice

                When you took my hand

                And became a friend.

But you crossed the line,

                Asked for my heart

                Want to be a lover

I never thought

                I’d be this way

I always knew

                What words to say

It would have been nice

                If you gave me chocolates

                Like you always did.

But you handed me

                Three stems of roses

                And looked at me shyly.

Our friends were staring

                Their eyes were hopeful

You’ve said the magic words

But I can’t say them, too.

It’s not a question

                That needs an answer

What d’you expect me

                To say in return?

Were you not happy

                We’re friends today?

Why do you have to do this?

You know, I don’t feel the same.

But you can step back;

                Let us stay the same.

Or would you rather go

                And kiss this amity away?
