Grayson's P.O.V.

"And make sure that presentation is perfect for the Nezandes' by Friday Grayson! I don't want to see a single flaw in it."

Ah yes another lecture on perfection.

"Don't worry about it boss, I can handle it."

I give a slight grin hoping he would be satisfied with my response and leave the topic alone

He seems to notice this and sighs deeply

"I know this must be a lot on you and I apologize for that, but this offer is a once in a lifetime chance and you know that!"

I couldn't deny that, no matter how much I wanted to

The Nezandes' are a huge company and I mean HUGE.

They make billions of money per year. So to have a small company work there way up the ranks and having their name even mentioned, let alone wanting to work with them, is an opportunity any individual should never turn down

So by any means, backing out was a huge no.

"I know boss, I won't let you down."

"That's the spirit!"

He gives a winning smile worthy of many awards and ends the Zoom meeting.

My smile immediately falls and I go back to working on the supposedly 'life changing' collaboration.

Life won't have any changes in store for me

Not anytime soon.

The huge raise is promising however-

As long as I don't make a fool of myself or the company, that is all that matters

As I continue slaving away at my desk I start to reflect about the people I've encountered in my life

While they haven't all been terrible, they could all outdo my mother any consecutive day of the week

Speaking of her, she's been nagging me all week

It's always 'why don't you get a better job, Grayson?' or 'If you worked harder you would be in college by 16!'

Blah blah blah, it's never about what I want is it? It never was.

Every little effort I make to please her amounts to nothing

I am the top employee here, the TOP and yet it's still not enough to satisfy her

I guess I'm forever going to be a disappointment until I finally make enough funds to go to college

Hell, if she cared about me going there so much why didn't she just pay for the damn fees herself?

I take a moment to look back at the progress on the project

Oh, I accidently typed out my thoughts

Quickly I delete them and continue to focus on the project

*time skip*

It was already 7:30pm and I still hadn't completed the project

"Grayson why aren't you helping me clean? I specifically asked you to help me and you didn't-"

She gives me a look

"Son are you alright? You look like you've set one foot in the grave."

"I already told you Mother, I have a project to finish for work."

My Mother seemed discontent with my answer "Well you could just-"

"Decline the offer? Mother we're making a presentation with the NEZANDES' don't you know about them?"

She shakes her head

"No I don't, and fix that attitude! I raised you better than this."

I sigh and begin explaining to her who the Nezandes' are, why this is such a good opportunity for the small business, the amount of money I could make from the raise etc.

She couldn't look any less dis-interested than just now-

"Still, I'm pretty sure you could help me first, you can finish that later."

"I don't think that would be a good idea. It's Monday and this is only 65% done."

She gives me a slight expression of annoyance, but doesn't comment

"If it makes you feel better I might be able to finish the main presentation off by Wednesday. I'll use Thursday to do the final touches and such."

She exhales

"Alright I'll trust you with it this once. But please save it really quickly and come help. After you finish there's food in the kitchen if you're hungry."

"I know Mother." I chuckle slightly

Despite all the terrible things she does, I still really love her.. really I do!

I just wish she would be less hard on me about my decisions in life

*Sigh*

Better go to help Mother clean around the house, I hope she made tuna casserole.

*The Next Day*

God damn it-

You know, they tell you to do things earlier so they don't pile up

Nobody told me they could stack all within an hour

This is great, now I have less time to finish my presentation.

I start throwing on a decent looking outfit and think about how to organize the tasks so I could save enough time to work on the project

Alright so I could start by helping Mom with making jam, then deliver the packages to the Robinson's and the Wilson's, grab some latte's for Linda and her friends, deliver it and come back home to work.

With the chance that the order will take a bit and Linda might want to chat, plus traffic.

Oh boy.

*time skip*

"Alright Mrs. Wilson, enjoy your 'Tropical Treats' jam package! Have a lovely day!"

"Thank you young man, you too!"

Soon enough I was on my way towards Karameru café to order the drinks for Linda.

Just thinking about the café makes me think about what happened yesterday

Blythe.. she really is unique

Despite her being quite oblivious to how our world is; which I will admit is a bit weird, we got along so well!

It's too bad I couldn't spend more time with her today, I already told her I was busy yesterday and then things came up-

Maybe I could make it up to her somehow?

*Sigh*

Ah, well at least I could get my dose of caffeine this morning while I'm at it

I enter into the familiar cafe and get in the appropriate line to order

Finally, I can get the drinks, deliver them to Linda's and leave to do my work.

As I arrive at the front of the line I see a familiar face taking orders at the register

"Hello! Welcome to Karameru cafe, may I take your- Grayson!?"
