Today is Halloween. Bailey was barely able to contain her excitement as she got dressed into her butterfly costume, her pale pink, nylon wings flat against her back and spread out to the sides, the gems and sparkles put on display proudly.

Tears were rolling down Jacob's cheeks as he tried so hard to hold back his laughter as Bailey ran around the room making "flapping" noises since, as the three year old claims, it's the sound that butterflies make.

Troye smacks Jacob's arm as Bailey returns to their room.

"Daddy, why yous not in yous costume?" Bailey asks seeing her parents in their regular clothes.

"Papa's gotta go to work, Haybail," Troye explains.

He was grateful to be a stay at home dad, mostly for the fact he didn't miss any work after staying in bed for almost two weeks after the news they had gotten. He was also thankful that they decided to start Bailey early at school, now for the same reason as he was able to grieve in peace without the fear of his daughter witnessing her depressed daddy.

The boy's registered the little girl at a daycare that also provided early learning, so Troye was able to be a stay at home dad without having to watch Bailey while trying to also get chores done around the apartment.

"But we's going t'ick-o-t'eating," the toddler pouts.

"That's not until later tonight, baby" Troye says softly.

"But why?"

"Because a lot of people work during the day, so nobody is going to be home to pass out candy until nighttime," the blond explains, kneeling in front of the girl. "We'll go when you get home from daycare."

Bailey whines, allowing her daddy to brush her brown hair out of her face. She looked just like her daddy when he was little. She had Jacob's nose but that was about the only things that resembled her Papa.

She had Troye's eyes, smile, hair color, and his personality. Her sass gets her into trouble sometimes, but most of the time, the boys brush it off unless it starts to cause an attitude.

Jacob laughs when it happens because the only thing he sees is Troye arguing with a female version of himself.

"But I don't wanna go to daycare," Bailey snaps, crossing her arms.

"Bailey, stop. It's not a big deal. It'll go by so fast you won't even notice. Plus, I'm sure there's going to be games and candy today. Everyone's going to be dressed in their costumes and having fun. Don't you want to join them?"

Bailey continues to pout, her arms remained crossed against her chest.

Troye sighs, "We don't have to go tonight."

"Nooo!" Bailey whines, dropping her arms to her side.

"Okay, well then behave," Troye says sternly, grabbing the little girl's hands gently. "I'm not taking you out if you're going to pout all day. Got it?"

Bailey nods and collides with the elder's torso, wrapping her short arms around him as best as she can. Troye hugs her back and kisses her head."I'm out," Jacob states walking over to his husband and daughter. "You ready, Beetle?"

Bailey nods and pulls out of the hug. Troye stands up and kisses the elder on the lips before leaning down and kissing Bailey on the cheek.

"I love you guys. I'll see you later."

"Yous gotsta be in yous costume when I get home, mis'er!"

"Okay, I will be," Troye chuckles, standing up straight. He looks at Jacob, "I'll have dinner ready when you guys get home. We'll eat and then we'll head on out."

"Sounds good. You ready, Haybail?"

"Mhm," the toddler hums, grabbing her Papa's hand.

"Okay, let's go."

Jacob walks into the familiar building of Bailey's daycare.

A caretaker, Ruby, smiles at him, "Hi, Jacob. How are you today?"

"Hey, Ruby. I'm good. How was Bailey today?"

"Hmm..."

"Uh oh. What happened?"

"It wasn't her fault."

Jacob covers his face and lets out a sigh.

"She and another girl got into it over some paint, clothes were ruined, walls were messied."

"It wasn't Bailey's fault?"

Ruby shakes her head, "No. I witnessed the whole thing from start to finish. Bailey reached for the pink and the other girl ripped it out of her hand, Bailey let her have it. The girl dipped her brush in, began painting, and Bailey tried to take it again since she wasn't using it and the girl got mad. The next thing I know, Bailey's got pink hair and paint is being thrown."

Jacob sighs again, "Where is she?"

"She's in the playroom. You can go back. But, while you're up here anyway, go ahead and sign her out."

"Thanks," Jacob says, grabbing the pen off the counter and signing his name under Bailey's name.

The man walks back to the playroom and looks around for his little girl. He smiles, seeing her in the corner.

"Papa!"

"Hi, baby," Jacob greets, squatting down as the toddler runs up to hug him.

"This mean girl put paint in my hair," Bailey mumbles sadly.

"Yeah, I know, Ruby told me," Jacob frowns lightly, silently thanking the caretakers for washing the paint out of her hair.

"It wasn't m'fault, Papa."

"I know, Beetle, it's okay."

"She ruined my costume," Bailey pouts.

Jacob looks down to see the butterfly dress covered in paint stains that were clearly attempted to be cleaned out, "I'm sorry, honey. It's okay though. We'll figure it out when we get home, alright? Are you ready to go?"

Bailey nods and grabs her father's hand.

Standing up, the two turn around and are stopped by one of the caretakers who is also one of the early learning teachers at the daycare.

"Hi, Mr. Bix, how are you today?"

"I'm good, Ms. Grace, how are you?"

"I'm wonderful. I'm sorry about Bailey. We tried to clean the paint out."

"That's okay. Thank you."

The teacher smiles, "Could I talk to you for a second?"

"Um, yeah. Sure."
