Chapter Seventeen

I sat in my room. Janson had switched me from the bunk-bed room to one by myself. They all loved me now. Janson ordered the doctors to give me my memories back, that'll happen in two weeks.

I gotta leave before then though. I don't want them back. They'll just make everything even worse, knowing that I helped WCKD put my friends in the maze.

I'm just hoping that the boys won't hate me after this. I had to, Wicked doesn't trust me enough yet. Apparently, they put a tracker in me after they switched me to a prosthetic and put me in the maze again.

Wicked was leaning towards me though, I had a few people on my side. A girl, Teresa, claims she knows me. I don't remember her though.

For now, I would play by their rules. They currently have me trying to find Harriet, Sonya, and Miyoko. I don't want to find them, but they assigned them to me. I don't really have a choice.

I walked into the lab again, Teresa called me up. She thinks she found a cure again, every time she calls me up here, the cure is a fail. She can't get it right and it makes Janson and Dr. Paige upset, I hate them too. Teresa told me that we used to be friends and stuff, but I could never see myself being a friend with such a bitch.

I walked over to the girl, she lit up once she saw me and ushered me over.

She moved the microscope for me to use. I looked in and she started talking, I ignored her.

She was in the middle of a sentence and I looked up again, I turned around and walked away from her. It was another fail, she was just happy because it didn't fail right off the bat.

I walked to the elevator and went to the sixteenth floor, it had my room on it. I walked in and immediately went to sleep. I made sure to take off the prosthetic, it got annoying at night.

They were working me almost every minute of every hour for the past two days. I only got five-minute breaks.

The only good thing was that the girls had found out about the trackers and found a way to cut theirs out, it would be nearly impossible to find them.

I looked around the room to see that no one else was in here. I placed my fingers on the keys and started typing away. I didn't even know what I was doing, but my fingers kept typing. It was like an instinct. My fingers found their way across the keyboard and the next thing I knew, I broke through the first firewall. I had a brief flashback.

*Flashback*

"Astrid, we need you to create the security systems for Wicked." A woman spoke, she had formality in her voice, I recognized her voice as Dr. Paige.

"Of course, ma'am." A female voice spoke, she sounded a but younger than me.

There were a few black and white flashes, then the two women appereared, I could see them.

A professionally dressed blonde woman sat at a desk, across from a red-haired teenager. The red-haired girl was dressed in suit pants, a blazer, and a very lacy bralette underneath the blazer. Her fire-like hair stopped at her shoulders and was covered with a beanie. The beanie was black, matching the bralette.

Her hair that wasn't trapped by the beanie, was untamed. Parts of it were more orange, and other parts were darker. Her hair definitely resembled an untamed flame. You could see it in her eyes that she didn't care about anyone else's shit. Her outfit showed she was professional with a hidden bit of teenage angst to it by a chain that wrapped around the smallest part of her waist. The girl radiated not to fuck with her.

And then it clicked.

The teenage girl was me. Before the maze, before everything.

The scene of the office changed. I was in a desk, the same one Wicked gave me to find the girls. My hands were typing away while Ava Paige spoke to everyone about the plans for the maze. A boy with dark hair, who resembled Thomas, was apparently helping to make the maze, and a girl named Teresa would also be helping him. I was creating the security systems, typing in code after code.
