Eric's POV

I lost a lot of things after the incident with my dad, I lost my home, my peace of mind, my sanity.....my sanity was the one thing I wished I could get back out of everything I lost, because I felt once I got that back everything else would fall into place. The more I hoped for it, the more of it I lost.

At some point I finally accepted that there was nothing that could be done, the doctors appointment were useless, they only helped in increasing the damages, slowly slipping away more of my humanity, and I let them. I knew doing it would not bring back my sanity, but it would keep my mum sane and I was okay with that.

And then here she is flashing the hope card, so blindingly bright, and I hate that my body seems so desperate to believe she really could be a way-

"Eric where's your head right now, I'm talking to you." My mom says snapping me out of my thoughts.

"It's here." I answer plainly still staring down at my food, which I've barely even touched.

"Well I was asking you if you both had rounded up on your project assignment." She says, reminding me that she's still here.

I raised my head up to glance at her a little, and I see her staring down at her food like I was but she hasn't even picked up her fork yet.

"Yeah mom, we did." I answer, my eyes still on her.

"Is there something wrong with the food?" I ask after a little pause directing my question to her. She looks up and sees me staring at her, startled as she realizes I was talking to her. Her eyes are distracting.

"Yes dear, you haven't touched your food, you don't like it?, are you allergic?" My mum asks breaking our stare down as she turns to face my mum, looking like she was caught doing something wrong.

"Uhm I- uhm didn't know I was allowed to eat uhm at t-the same time with you, I -I'm sorry." She says looking back at her fingers which has been on her laps from the beginning, I swear I see her eyes begin to water.

"Why would you think that?, of course its okay to eat now." My mum says. To which she replies with only a nod and picks up her fork.

There's something odd about her, and even though I don't want to care.......

I feel like I have to.

***********

"T-thanks." She whispers as I park in front of her house's gate, I probably wouldn't have heard it.

I settle to give a nod as my reply as she opens her door to head out, but then she settles down back and shots the door.

I give her a puzzled look waiting for an explanation.

"I- I want to help," She says and it takes me a second to process what she says, but I understand. I give a stiff nod as a reply not wanting to show how relieved I am to know she's willing to help.

"B-but first, I-I don't exactly know how or what I'm helping y-you with, and second, I-I'll need your help in return."

Of course there's a catch, there's always a catch.

"What do you want?,"I ask with a bored tone hiding the fact that I was desperate.

"First I-I...... Eden." She says focusing on her hands which I just noticed trembling on her laps as she tries invane to hide it.

"Eden?, the girl earlier at school?," I ask genuinely confused as to what she wanted me to do with her.

She replies with a simple nod.
