033. WISHING FOR THE GOOD OL' DAYS

∘₊✧───────────────────────────✧₊∘

When Seth learned that the prisoner that he referred to as "the witch" had been taken captive, he had gone ballistic. Koria considered herself and Hux lucky to be alive. The guards who had been standing watch... not so much. She ignored the worried yet muttered complaints from Hux. She had more important things to worry about than the unsatisfied general. She had just found herself in good standings with the Supreme Leader, she didn't intent to lose that moments after she had gained it.

"Would you stop ignoring me?"

"I'm sorry, what was that?" she asked while continuing to walk away, "I was busy ignoring you."

"That's not—"

Even if the action was childish, she closed the next set of doors that she walked through in the general's face. She took a second to smile to herself before someone else wanted her attention.

"Admiral!"

She turned and sighed, "2552, what can I do for you?"

"I was wondering that since—"

"2552!" and 3852 decided to join the party, "Leave the Admiral alone! She's not going to give you a raise just because you know her."

"There's no harm in asking."

"Wrong, very wrong!" 3852 reprimanded, "There is a lot of harm—"

"She's not like the rest of them."

"2552," 3852 seemed to warn, "The Admiral is still our superior."

"I'm right here," Koria rolled her eyes, forgetting that she wasn't wearing her helmet, "If there's an issue I can handle it."

She proceeded to ignore them and walked away without another word. Again, she had more serious things to deal with and didn't feel like wasting any more of her time. Before she had even realized where she was going, she had ended up in the hangar. When she lifted her eyes up from the ground, she was greeted with the familiar sight of her personal TIE fighter. A small smile formed on her face. She looked around cautiously before realizing that she had no reason to be cautious. She was the Admiral. She could really do anything that she wanted if it didn't interfere with any of the Supreme Leader's personal plans. Without another moment of hesitation, she quickly clambered up inside the fighter and took a seat. Despite being enclosed, it finally felt like she could breathe again. It felt like she could relax again as if she wasn't carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders. The moment was brief, but much needed.

"Dangir!"

She looked through the cockpit window and groaned out loud as she watched Hux walk through the hangar. If there was one thing that she envied about the man, it was the way that he commanded a room simply by entering. Maybe if she ignored him, he would go away and she could forget being in charge for more than a minute.

"Dangir! I can see you."

"Blast," she muttered to herself before exiting the cockpit and speaking up, "What can I do for you, General?"

He looked taken back that she had referred to him so formally, "Ah, yes—The Supreme Leader refuses to let anyone else into the throne room aside from yourself."

"Why?" she raised an eyebrow, "It's not like his identity is a secret—"

She stopped speaking as she noticed that Hux swallowed nervously.

"Or has something changed?"

"Your personal squad is all that remains of the individuals who have seen the Supreme Leader's face."

She felt the color drain from her face. She stumbled and she noticed that Hux's arm twitched slightly. She had come to the hangar because she thought it was a safe space to momentarily avoid the pressures of the First Order; however, now she knew that there truly was no escape. For awhile, all she had wanted was a promotion into the upper ranks of the military. Now she regretted that desire and ambition. She'd be satisfied to sit in a cockpit once more where all she had to worry about was not getting blown to bits.

"Koria."

"Admiral," she corrected without hesitation and again it was evident that he was surprised by her bluntness, "As your superior officer, I should be addressed as such."

"O-of course," he nodded his head.

He didn't point out her change of demeanor which she appreciated, but refused to show. She'd said it before, but now she meant it: no more weakness. The supreme leader was not to be messed with. Furthermore, if he would only speak to her then that meant she would represent him in everything that she said and did. If she was weak, he would be seen as weak. She had been chosen because of her ability to show strength in the face of fear. She had to be the Admiral who laughed in the face of danger.

"Does the Supreme Leader need me in this moment?"

Hux nodded, but said nothing.

She turned and left without another word.
