"two months to go..."
narrators pov
"two months? are you both sure? you're going to miss a lot of lessons don't you think? and blaise, have you even talked to your mother? i don't want any problems. i just want to make sure you both have completely thought this through." elizabeth did a lot of the question asking while lafayette listened and observed, not really having the energy or reason to object to the sudden change in plans.
"yes, we are sure. and also, we'll be multitasking with keeping up with our lessons and helping out around here. we've already talked to our professors and they are fine with it, considering that it is a family matter." deryah answered, mentally running through everything part of their plan.
"what about your friends? won't they worry? you're just up and leaving,"
"no they won't, when we go to gather our things on sunday, we'll inform them of our new arrangements. living and educational." these words stung her heart, causing her to place her head down to her lap.
blaise took notice of her sadness and grabbed her hand, taking over the answers to their questions. "each week, we'll go back to get a week's worth of assignments, and so every time we do return, we'll also just be turning in everything. as for our friends, we will see them when we do, i guess. it all depends on how the chat goes tomorrow."
"okay, that's good. i appreciate this from both of you, i really do. especially you blaise."
"it's honestly no problem ma'am. i'm happy to help around here as much as i can."
elizabeth had run down her list of questions, knowing that had answered every single one. a string tugged at her heart, but she let it go as she closed off the discussion. "okay, well let me go get dinner started, deryah can you help me?"
"yes, of course mum. blaise you'll stay here with dad?"
"of course," he smiled.
reaching the kitchen both ladies exhaled, deryah exhaling even deeper. their similar mannerisms began to show as they spread their arms on each side of the kitchen island before starting their tasks. both of them knew that this needed to be done, but it was sometimes hard to face the truth.
turning to her mother, deryah braced herself for anything her mother would throw at her. "mum?"
"i don't know."
"what?"
"i don't know why, but i don't want you to be here." tears fell from her eyes as she tried her best to keep it together. "i don't want you to watch the man who helped raise and nurture you grow sick and die. you have so much respect for him, he's your father for merlin's sake. it's not right. none of it is..."
"yes i understand that, but he is my father, the man that helped raise and nurture me. not only that, but he's part of the reason why i am who i am today. i can't just turn a blind eye because i'm supposed to be having a teenager life. priorities mum...i have priorities."
it was a lost cause trying to convince deryah that she should've gone back to school, so her mother gave it up. she had only one request though. "if you're going to stay here, i don't want you alone, blaise has to stay the entire duration of you being here, okay? a-and your friends...they can come stay for the weekends or longer if you want. i'll talk to your father. i- i just know how you can get. so please, don't fight me on this." elizabeth knew that even though deryah pretended to be strong, she'd often shut down when it came to things like this, losing the people or things she loved most.
