About two months have passed, and it was Christmas. Jolin and Kimberly knew what that meant. Christmas dinner with the whole family, usually at Grandma Lynn's house. While riding in the car, Jolin tapped to the beat of her music, which blasted through her headphones. Thinking about all that had happened at school, especially in the last months... it left her speechless, and if she was being honest. It was a little nice to have something that could mix up her daily routine. In those two months her and Mark had grown so close together, they seemed like best friends, maybe even a little couple. She smiled, thinking about him, and how he made her laugh. Soon they pulled into the heavily decorated driveway, they're coats on, shivering in the cold as soon as they opened the car door. Her father was in a good mood, since he had finished his serum 5 days ago, and her mom was in more than a happy mood, because she had just gotten promoted. Everything seemed happy, and great. Sliding her feet up the driveway to decrease the rate that she might fall. Carefully walking up the slippery frost covered steps, Jolin knocked on the door, not being surprised when Emily opened it. Scoffing and turning around. She left the door open, as she marched down the hall, joining the family with the festivities. Tugging her boots off, she saw a shadow, which crept by the doorframe. Assuming it was one of the kids who were playing around, she didn't pay much attention to it. Walking forward, down the hall, she spotted one person right away. Uncle Zack. He was wearing a black tuxedo, with his silver ring gleaming off of the light. There was a weird tension in the air, like something was going on, and Jolin and her parents were the only ones oblivious to it. Jeffery stride into the living room with pride, as Angelica had snagged a drink while passing the kitchen. Jolin saw Kimberly's mix-matched eyes, and immediately went over. Walking over, Jolin felt pairs of eyes on her, whether it be the entire family, or just one person, she definitely felt someone staring her down, like a spy marking down their target. "Oh, hey..." Kimberly looked at Jolin, as she approached. "Hey..." she said awkwardly, putting her hands in her pockets. The air was coated with a sugar sweat smell, and good food, but the tension was mixing in an utter bitterness into the excited atmosphere. "Are you staying away from Mark, now...? Or..." Jolin rubbed the back of her head, sighing as people came out with food. "We actually have something good going..."
Kimberly snarled, arms crossed with her lip curled. "You said yourself you'd stay away from boys this school year..." Jolin's heart fastened as she thought about the earlier months prior to school. "You broke your promise."
"C'mon Kimberly! You were drooling over this boy like 2 months ago, how come you're suddenly against him? Plus I wanted to try new things." Kimberly kept her sour face as Jolin tried to explain. "But you promised." One of Kimberly's rules were broken, and the consequences were usually great, even for herself. She hated breaking the "promise" rule. "How come I don't get a free pass on this one?"
"Because." Kimberly remained stubborn, watching as Jolin quickly turned to anger and annoyance. "Goddamn, how come you can't be stubborn for one fucking minute?" She kept the cursing to a slight whisper. Kimberly's neck slowly drifting back, uncrossing her arms. "Like come on! It's fucking annoying."
"You know what is annoying? When people don't keep up with their promises." Jolin growled, fists clenched to her side. "Now thats fucking annoying! And you know that that pisses me off! More than anything else." Kimberly barked back, her canines sparkling in the light. "Fuck! You're also so damn selfish."
"Selfish? I'm selfish? You're the one who broke your promise! YOUR promise!" Jolin silently gasped, backing up a few feet. If she's known anything about herself, she knew she'd start to throw punches, and she'd try to kill Kimberly. "And you say I'm fucking selfish." Kimberly crossed her arms, glaring at her. "Fuck... you." Jolin spit, walking into the crowd, away from her. Kimberly loosened her arms which were crossed. She huffed, mopily walking over to the kitchen. Finding her way through the crowd, Jolin found her parents, who were talking with Uncle Zack. He seemed more of a douche today, than the last time she saw him. "So... Jeffery... how's that experiment of yours going?" He laughed, taking a swig of champagne. "Very good actually I finished the serum."
"Oh really?" Angelica looked at Jeffery with a smiling face. She was proud of him, and for once so was Jolin. "Yeah, just finished it last week." Zack smiled, nodding putting a hand TV
on his shoulder. "What's it called?"
"GMH-2"
"Very cool!" Zack stared off to the kitchen taking his hand off his shoulder. "Angie... what do you think of his experiment?" Zack put a hand on her shoulder. Jolin took note of this, especially that he was doing it with his hand that had his gleaming ring. She wasn't paying attention, and her attention only came back when she felt a pressure on her head. "What about you, Jolin?" He had put his hand on her head. "What do you think?" Jolin felt a weird alarming wave wash over her. Something was unbelievably wrong. "I think... he's doing great." She smiled, it faded as he raised his hand for a split second, before tossing a tuft of hair out of his face. "Well... I hope that that works out for you." He took his drink, and shimmied through the crowd. They fell oblivious to the tension, and the obvious red flags. Yet, the two continued to wallow in their good luck, smiling and drinking as Jolin started to hyperventilate. "Something is very wrong." Jolin thought looking to the kitchen. Inside, four shadows quickly scurried out, running to the garage. Not suspicious at all... keeping calm, she ended up enjoying the little nice festivities that her family had created. The sugar cookies, the cake, and the turkey. Keeping to herself, Jolin found the night as a whirlpool of confusion. The night blurred together, and she was once in a chair having dinner, and soon she was in her bed, her eyes closing on their own. The warm sheets closed her in, saving her from the harsh cold chill that came through the window. Without warning, she went to sleep, sinking deeper and deeper into the sheets. Afraid to have a terrifying nightmare, she was relieved she had a peaceful sleep, no shadows and no burning building. She just dreamed that she was in a whole white world, floating effortlessly, as she continued to slowly twirl. The only thing that felt weird, is the fact that handcuffs seem to restraint her wrist, while a needle seem to keep plunging into her skin. She felt a faster, and deeper heartbeat. Something that pounded louder, and bolder than her own. Only strange thing is, she could feel the heart beating inside of her, and while she laid there in silence, Jolin seemed to hear everything. It was like she was in a coma. So much so, that she feared that she wasn't going to wake up.
