<Excuse me. . . Here's your nose, I found it in my business>

|Kian|

"HERE IT is sir." Alice handed me an office file, then stepped a few feet away from my desk, head slightly bowed.

I regarded the gangly woman before me. She'd touched up her tacky image, managing to appear as a worker employed under me should. Her straight black hair was pulled back in a bun, her blouse tucked securely into her skirt and while she'd leaned in to present the file, I'd even scented a hint of floral perfume on her. But, despite all her efforts, her collar remained flat and rumpled. That should teach her not to sleep on the job.

Lowering my eyes, I glanced at the time. Exactly 10:30 am on the dot. Very good. Wonders threatening to fire someone can do. Withholding a pleasing remark on her punctuality---this was how she could have been working earlier---I fixed an impatient stare to the document on the desk and flipped it open.

About 50 prominent business men and women, their various addresses and phone contacts occupied all the four crisp pages of the file, the black printed letters a stark bold against the whiteness of the paper.

Richer than Hades and snobbier than your average fairy-tale princesses, these powerful people could either break or mend you quicker than you could blink. But, I was on a higher pedestal than them all and as the latest power broker, I could and would use my high connections to get whatever I desired.

Satisfied with my perusal, I closed the file. Then, I tapped a finger on the document and fixed a meaningful stare at Alice who still dipped her head, palms clasped together.

Jesus Christ of Nazareth, nothing on earth rankled me more than seeing someone cower before me, the spineless fool riling me up in the process. How hard was it to chin up?! Man up? It was the only fucking way to get through the fucking disaster that was life.

"Look up Alice and for goodness sake, whenever you're in here with me, quit looking down at the ground!"

She raised her head immediately and pinned her fidgety gaze to the wall besides my head, altogether scared of staring into my face.

No hope, I heaved out a mental sigh at her weakling antics, there was no hope for this woman.

Nevertheless, I began talking, my fingers splayed on the file, "I want you to contact everyone on here. Tell them about a certain lady. . . Wait, let me get her name."

I unfurled the Chicago Tribunes and opened up to the page where that proud bitch's sob story was published.

Completely unpronounceable, Jadesola Anyalewechi glared at me in bold black letters.

Fuck, how on earth was I meant to pronounce this shit? It was very obvious that her name was of African origin but, at least I knew how to articulate Jade so I was going to try.

"Jade-so-la Any-ale-we-chi. . ." Huh? That made the least bit of sense to me. Any? Ale? We? I frowned then shrugged.

"Okay, fuck her name. If I can't pronounce it, a dunce like you can't either."

Alice's brow quivered---for the first time in forever, she was displaying some spunk--- and I raised mine, daring her to protest at my degrading sentence but she suppressed her emotions and her facial expressions became calm once more.

A bit disappointed she'd smothered her fire, I continued, "As I was saying, I want you to contact everyone on this file. Inform them that the owner of a bankrupt casino, Pepper Dem, is seeking financial aid and that they shouldn't agree to loan its owner any amount of money whatsoever. Why? Because its owner is a crook and a gambler."
