April and Science turn toward the direction from which they heard the voice. A slim, pretty girl stood with a serious expression on her face. April takes a few seconds to examine her. April could not help but notice her thinness and beauty. She silently wondered who was thinner, herself or the girl.
The girls' loud voices pull her out of her rivalry.
"Science, you are practically eating without me," the slim girl remarks, rolling her eyes.
"Without you, or without us?" Another voice asks, completely taking April aback; she did not realize someone else was present.
"I apologize," Science apologizes and rolls her eyes, while April attempts to conceal her discomfort.
"Dumlesi, Nancy, meet April Kuti, our new student. The girl who broke the school's record." Science introduces.
"Oh, Hey! I am Dumlesi Johnson." The dark, thin girl says with a smile as she settles into the chair.
"My name is Nancy Chidebere," the light-skinned, busty girl says. April sensed the girl's hostility and disapproving look but chooses to ignore it.
"I am glad to meet you, your matter has been trending, and I just wanted to see the girl behind it," Dumlesi says, earning a weak smile from April, while Nancy settles down. She appeared to be preoccupied with the bottle of Coke she was holding.
"I told her," Science says, smiling.
"So, what class are you? It is obvious you are in Ss2, Arts, or Science?" Dumlesi inquires, giving Science a funny look.
"Science!" April responds.
"Wow, we are all science students, except this bookworm over here," April says, pointing to Nancy, who sits quietly and says nothing.
"You know, I forgot to ask her," Science says, giving April a gentle smile that she returns.
"That is because you talk a lot; you will just ignore the important things and start talking about the irrelevant ones," Dumlesi says, irritating Science.
"Dumlesi Johnson, this is a new term," Science explains.
"Science Chuku, I am aware," Dumlesi responds, causing everyone to laugh except Nancy, who was not talking or smiling. She was just acting weirdly, staring at the coke bottle she was holding. That was when April realized she had not spoken since she introduced herself. Nancy was strange and beautiful, and her glasses complemented her perfectly. Her light skin appeared spotless. April silently wondered what cream they were using because their skin was all glowing.
"Science, to the left, to the left," Dumlesi says quietly, using her left hand to cover her mouth as if she wanted to gossip. Meanwhile, April, who did not know what was going on, simply followed their gaze. She noticed four boys heading for a seat. April stares at them with her eyes wide open. Waiting for Dumlesi to say something more.
"Senior Wealth just broke up with Senior Chelsea," Dumlesi says, smiling.
"Are you happy?" Science asks, her face expressionless.
"I am tired of them doing the perfect couple shit; we all know Senior Wealth is a player," Dumlesi says, as Science rolls her eyes. This act makes Dumlesi laugh.
"Sorry, I forgot he is your ride-or-die crush," Dumlesi laughs at Science.
"You are stupid," Science says, rolling her eyes.
"But I still stand my ground, Senior Jordan is more handsome, the others are just fair, that is what is helping them," Dumlesi says and laughs, while April stares at the boy she believes is the Jordan they were talking about, the dark-skinned guy in their midst. She casts a glance at both the fair and the one who appeared to be half-caste.
