This is the first lesbian movie of Kenya and despite being banned in its home country, it has gained huge success for which I'm very happy.
It was refreshing to see that the romance was the main focus of the story, it was just two young girls falling in love with each other despite the chaos taking place around them.
That doesn't mean the movie ignores the hurdles they faces from the people and society around them. There are scenes that make you really angry and punches you in the gut with the reality of the situation.
Despite the movie using some common and predictable tropes it was well acted and well directed. I loved the chemistry between Ziki and Kenna which made the scenes between them more tender and moving.
I was constantly on the edge throughout the movie waiting for something bad to happen considering the movie takes place in a country where homosexuality is still illegal and their families are political enemies.
Though they do get separated for a while they eventually find their way to each other. So I would consider it as a happy ending even though it felt a little open.
