After weeks of planning and preparation, Raj and Pooja's wedding day had finally arrived.
Since Raj was the youngest of the four friends, he was affectionately called the 'Cub'. Mihir was with him, grooming him for the big day.
"Shakkar, I've been thinking about something lately," he said.
"What is it, Raju?"
"I've told you that my parents forced me to do what they wanted. But now, I feel that I wronged them by being rebellious."
"I see," said Mihir.
"But still, they neglected me a lot. Many a time, I felt very lonely. I wish I could go back to them and ask for their forgiveness."
"I can understand your situation, Raju. I'll come with you to Nagpur to meet your parents."
Raj smiled. "By the way, did you confess your feelings to Sanya?"
Mihir shook his head. "That robot came in the middle and spoilt our perfect date!" he said. "Anyway, look at you, Raju. You look just like SRK from Asoka!"
"Really?"
"Yes," said Mihir. "Your Jalebi is going to swoon."
Raj looked at him with a strange expression.
"I was just telling the truth!"
"When did I say that you were lying?" asked Raj.
Meanwhile, on the girls side....
"Admit it, Sanya!" said Pooja. "You like Mihir bro!"
"Okay, Sweety! I admit!" Sanya said, laughingly. "If not for that stupid robot, I would have confessed my feelings to him."
"You can still do it now."
"I can only say it private!" said Sanya, as a red colour flew into her cheeks.
"What's the matter?" asked Nisha and Mishti, entering the room with all the makeup ammunition. Aisha was also with them.
"Nothing, I was just teasing Sanya."
The girls giggled, and took up the task of making Pooja look like a queen, so that her king Raj would be fully fuelled on seeing her.
The ceremony was gonna be very simple, with only them and Sunil and Sanya's parents. Mihir felt sad that his best friend had to marry the love of his life in such simplicity.
"So right now, Mihir is the only single one in our group," said Rohit. "Prem and I are already married and Raj is going to be in a few minutes."
"Rohit, have you forgotten that he's in love with my sister?" asked Sunil.
"But he hasn't even confessed to her yet, bro."
"Such things happen sometime. Ask me, I was as nervous as hell when I asked Aisha out for the first time! But Mihir has done it so easily."
"But our date didn't go well, thanks to that idiotic robot," said Mihir.
Sunil patted his shoulder to comfort him.
Prem, who had been silent all the while, broke his silence by a cough to indicate that he was still there.
"I'm so glad that I'm not like all of you, being shy to confess my feelings. The moment I knew that I'd fallen for Nisha, I didn't hesitate to tell her. God on my side, she reciprocated!"
Mihir laughed heartily. He had always been moved by the strong bond that his friends had with their partners.
"Let's talk about the Dulhe Raja now, shall we?" he asked. "Raj, you've got no idea how happy I am, for you."
"Yeah, our Cub is getting married!" remarked Prem. "Raj, don't you think it's too early for you to marry? You and Pooja are just twenty two!"
"That doesn't mean he can't live his life on his own terms," said Mihir. "Live, and let live!"
Raj leaned on his shoulder for comfort. Mihir always defended him when he had a problem!
Soon, the time for the rituals arrived.
Raj was seated on a horse and with his friends surrounding him, he was enjoying quite well.
Mihir prayed to Lord Shiva to keep them safe, and for the wedding should go on well.
And God, he never fails to answer the prayers of his virtuous devotee!
While Raj and Pooja circumambulated the sacred fire, Mihir was passionately admiring Sanya.
He was seeing her in a saree for the first time, and she was stunningly beautiful. But Mihir thought that she was stunning in anything she wore.
"My angel queen," he thought. "I would give my life for your smile!"
Rohit noticed it and elbowed Prem.
"What?" he asked.
"Mihir is looking at Sanya," said Rohit. "Put on some music. Let's make them dance!"
Prem agreed with him. Both of them took up microphones in their hands and announced.
"Now, Mihir and Sanya will thrill us with their dance!" they yelled, before turning the music on.
It wasn't any ordinary song. It was the song Saathiya from the eponymous movie, one of both Mihir and Sanya's favourites.
Seriously Sonu Nigam sir, how is it possible that you've sung the perfect song for every mood?
Mishti and Nisha pushed them to the centre of the hall to dance.
The two of them laughingly accepted to dance. But something kept striking them as they danced.
The song and their moods matched perfectly.
It struck Mihir time and time again that everyone in the room knew about his feelings for Sanya. But only he didn't have the courage to tell her.
That night, he wrote in his diary.
Dear Diary,
My Sanu had dazzled in a pink saree today. She looked like an Apsara. Everyone knows how much I like her, and thus made me dance with her. But does she like me? I just can't find out! But if my love is true, she surely requites it. And I will have my future with her. She fights with me a lot these days, but I don't really disdain her for that. Love doesn't come without fights!
Oh, and as you already know, today is Raj and Pooja's wedding day. I feel so happy for my best friend to be starting this new chapter in his life. They're one of the cutest couples I've seen, and they love each other more than anything else. Some say that Raj and I look like real brothers, but I guess they're just envious of our bonding. He is, after all, the first person, who filled my seemingly-meaningless life with love and laughter.
See you soon,
Yours lovingly,
Hero
