The Doctor's Birthday

The preparations for Raj and Pooja's wedding were in full swing. But there was an occasion to honour before that - Aisha's birthday. 

"Prem, only you know what Ashu likes best. Can you tell me so that I can get it as a gift for her?" asked Sunil. 

"She likes fancy cushions," replied Prem. 

"We've got several of those in our bedroom."

"Well, how about a nice romantic statuette?"

"We've got that too!"

The two brothers-in-law were arguing seriously about the birthday gift, when suddenly, there was a knock on the door. 

Sunil's mother went to open the door. 

"Oh, hi Mihir!" she said. "What's the matter?"

"Nothing serious, Aunty. I just came casually," he answered. 

"Would you like a cup of coffee?"

"Right now, I'm in a mood to sacrifice the whole city for your coffee, Aunty."

Mrs Sehgal was flattered. She went into the kitchen to make coffee, while Mihir sat down with Sunil and Prem.

"So both of you are discussing what gift to give Aisha," he said. 

Prem nodded. "Shakkar, do you have any ideas of what we could buy for her?" 

Mihir was thoughful. 

"Laadley, a gift is a symbol of love. Why does it always have to be something material?"

"What do you mean, Mihir?" asked Sunil. 

"What I mean is that, gift her a moment which she'll never forget," he replied. "Sunil, you are a writer. Why don't you compose a poem and recite it to her?"

"Great idea!" 

"And you, Prem, are a singer. Dedicate a song to her over WhatsApp. These are the best gifts that she can get."

Both of them group-hugged him, and thanked him for his ideas, as he drank Mrs Sehgal's delicious coffee. 

"Bye yaar, I have to go," he said, and flounced away. 

"Hey Mihir! Pick up Sanya from college will you?" Sunil shouted out to him. 

"Okay!" he yelled back, and hopped on his motorbike. 

Mihir was in fact, going to pick up Sanya. He had been wrestling with his feelings for her for quite a while now, and he decided that he indeed had something for her.
