Finding a home

Carina's POV

My eyes slowly started to open, it was a Thursday, Maya and I both had the day off so we planned on spending it together, just the 2 of us since Gabriella was at school, Maya is always awake early so she took Gabriella to school while I was still sleeping, normally then this happens Maya gets back into bed and does a bit of paperwork on her laptop, but today was different, when I rolled over to face her Maya was just lay there flat on her back staring at the ceiling, she didn't often do this but when she did I knew she was thinking about something that was playing on her mind.

"Bella are you okay ?" I said to her but i got no response so I placed my hand on her stomach and spoke again. "Bella are you okay?" I asked again. "I errr ummm sorry, I was just thinking" she said to me still looking up at the ceiling. "I can see that Bella, what are you thinking about" I ask her as I draw circles on her stomach. "Gabriella........ and Annabelle" she told me but didn't say anything else. "What about them... you can tell me Bella" I told her. It did take a minute for her to tell her.

"I was think about how a mothers actions can really effect their child, I mean Annabelle did nothing to deserve this and now her life has just been tore apart, she's on her own and has no one by her side, I was even talking to social services and they said she would probably be put in a group home because no one wants a sick and injured child who's 8, I just fell so bad and I wish I could help, she has not even got a sibling, if there was another one they would be able to do this together, she's just so lonely" she told me as I listened. "And then that brings me on to Gabriella, do you ever wonder if she's lonely at all, not having a sibling, I mean at her age me and my brother were joined at the hip and then you and Andrew you guys are just sibling goals and maybe Gabriella would want a sibling, I don't like children very much and didn't think I wanted any children, but with you it's different I want all the children in the world" she says to me. "Bella are you telling me you want another child ?" I ask her as I play with her hair and look into her eyes, she then turns on her side to face me. "I think I am" she says to me. "Well I think that's a great idea" I tell her as her eyes open wide. "Really?" She asked. "Really ! So how are we going to do this, it's not like we can just create a baby" I ask her as she laughs. "I don't really mind, but I know I was the one who said I wanted another kid I just don't think that I am up to carrying a baby" she tells me. "It's okay bella, I get it, I don't mind carrying it" I tell her. "And then we can use your egg" I tell her. "That sounds really great" she tells me. "Well I know a great fertility specialist so I'll speak to her" I tell her as Maya leans over for a kiss and we just lay there in the biggest hug.

"Baby I know we are supposed to be spending the day together today but would you find it if I go see Annabelle, she keeps telling me how happy it makes her when she has someone around her to play with and to speak too" she says to me. "Of course, why don't I come with you as well" I say smiling. "Yeah I'd love that" she replies.

It was now about an hour later and we just about to walk out the door to go and visit Annabelle. "Hey baby, what do you think about going away for the weekend ?" She asks me. "Are you sure, you hardly take vacation time" I say to her. "Yeah I'm sure, just me you and Gabriella, I think I just need some time away from reality" she says to me, I could see that she was struggling so I just went up and hugged her. "I'd love that Bella" I say as we stay in each other's presents for a bit longer until we finally walked out the door to the hospital.

But when we arrived at the room no one was there.
"Hey dr Helm where did they take Annabelle ? Is she having a scan" I asked a near by intern. "I'm sorry dr Deluca she's not, something happened and she's in surgery again" she tell us. "Well can you get an update on her and come back to tell us, we will be in my office" I say and I grab Maya's hand because I could see that she was getting worried, I then lead her to my office.

"Carina I need to know what happened, she was doing fine, her leg was healing and her burns were getting better" she says to me nearly in tears. "I know Maya" I say as I take us both into my office. "But she's got this far already so I'm sure she can push past everything that is thrown her way, I believe in her" I tell her. "I do too but I wish I know why she's in surgery, she's had such a hard life and I just wish that all these hard challenges would stop being thrown her way" she says to me as tears roll down her face, so I do the only thing I know what to do, I just go up and hug her really really tightly.

But for once that didn't work and you could still see the fear in her eyes. "Does the hospital have a gym" she asks because she wants to release all the stress and anger worked up in her. "Well..... ummm.... Nope but yes, I don't think it's been used in 10 years, but I do have a mat you can use and I can leave you to do your press up and workout stuff" I tell her. "Thank you baby, I love you" she said as she kisses me before I go and place the mat on the floor. "I'll be back in 10, I'm going to get an update" I say as I quickly shove on my scrubs so I could go into the OR.

"Dr Bailey to we have an up-" I said as I swing open the door of the OR but I was interrupted by the bleeping of the machines, I looked over to the screens and all I could see was a flat line. "Time of death, 11:53am" Bailey said as she looked at Amelia. "Bailey what happened" I asked her. "I'm sorry carina, she was fine, and then she just took a turn, a blood clot had appeared from her broken leg and it had travelled all the way up to her brain, I was just talking to her and she started seizing, we took her straight to the CT and paged Amelia but by the time we had cut her open it was too late, Shepherd tried all she could but the damage was already made and she had been without oxygen for too long" Bailey tell me, "I need to tell Maya" I say as I walk out slowly without saying another word.

"Maya" I say as I walk into the room to see Maya doing her 1000th burpee. "Do you have an update?" She asks as she stands up. "Yeah I actually do, why don't you sit down" I tell her and I take her hand and guide her to the sofa. "Carina what's going on, can you just tell me, can I see her ?" She asks so I just pluck up the courage to tell her. "I'm sorry bambina.... But she...... Annabelle died" I tell her as she quickly lets go if my hand, grabs a coffee mug and throws it as hard as she can across the room, making me jump.

Im so sorry that this is such a terrible chapter and that it's taken me such a while to update, I've just been so busy with starting my new job and just loads of other stuff
