Let Me Go
Chapter 13
--
So, now what?Now what indeed.
It took her a couple of minutes to process what's been happening all day: Sakura's sudden request to lend her a hand, Alfred's confrontation, and most of all, her punching Kiku square in the face.
The memory of her fist rapidly hitting Kiku directly at the bridge of his nose sent a wave of superiority and confidence wash over her for a slight while, only to be replaced by a spang of dread and anxiety. Her old friend Distressed Thoughts was more than happy to return, its voice louder than ever.
You're losing yourself, dear Katrina.
Was she? A little part in her wanted to yell out to the world that she's still sane, that what she did was completely reasonable, but at the same time, a much bigger part of her accepted that she was slipping. That she was slowly drowning. And there was nothing she could do about it.
Seconds felt like hours, the deafening silence pierced through her eardrums and the temperature of the room dropped remarkably. She lied there, motionless and limp for who knows how long.
I don't fucking know anymore. The thought popped into her head as she turned sideways, her figure wrapped in a mess of teal blankets that served as a barrier.
She didn't feel like crying, she didn't feel like getting furious either; she just felt like giving up. She thought that it would be much easier to just shut down.
Funny, she thought to herself humorlessly, her breath caught up in her chest and the afternoon breeze pounding hard on the window panes. I remember when I used to wish for my reality to be like this. She closed her eyes, a small smile tugged itself onto her lips.
Feels like just yesterday when I would stay in my room, scavenging in those Hetalia reader inserts, praying to the deities above to take me to the 'World Of Hetalia'. She recalled, each memory of her little Existential Crisises leaving a bittersweet taste in her thoughts. Or some shit like that.A martyred laugh escaped her lips as she took a couple of deep breaths before sighing exasperatedly.
Never thought I'd actually grow to want to return to my old reality. Shame
***She didn't know how long she's taken her blissful snooze, but she hoped that it lasted a little longer, just to pass off the night.
Katie sat up and tried to adjust her eyes to the darkness. She could faintly make out the dim shine of the grandfather clock in the distance, the long hand pointing to eight and the short on pointing to ten.
She stumbled to stand up, the teal blanket sheets fumbled out of her grip and onto the floor. Katie stared at them for a while before deciding that she'd first need to grab a bite to satisfy her monsterous hunger. She staggered to the door, unlocked it, and greeted the heavy wind that welcomed itself in her room.
She wasn't in the mood to do anything, really. If her stomach wasn't growling like some sort of beast, she would've just stayed in her bed.
The hallways were empty, which didn't fuzzle Katie that much; it was dinner time, after all. She was soon greeted by a white door decorated in miscellaneous patterns of gold that towered over her. She grabbed the handles and, as quietly as possible, she pushed the doors open.
A gust of wind brushed against her shoulder as she slightly recoiled as a reflex. Once she calmed, she carefully walked in, attracting the attention of every country present around the dining table. They spared her not more than a stare (or a glare and scowl) before returning to whatever business they were doing.
