Let Me Go
Chapter 14 [An Extra-long Chapter!]
Be the person they want you to be
A small grin crawled onto her lips as she stared blankly at the wall across her. Her eyes lit up in satisfaction and the thought echoed in her thoughts over and over again.
Door creak.
Katie snapped out of her trance once she heard it, alarm bells rang in her head as she flailed manically, trying to get herself back to her feet without toppling over. She ran her hands against the blank walls , hoping to find something to grab onto, she twisted and twirled as she tried managed her footing.
Footsteps.
Close.
Very close.
Katie almost let out a high-pitch screech of horror had she not grabbed the corners of her lips and pinched together as the sound of footsteps and a hearty conversation ricocheted against the hallway walls as she heard a large group part ways. With her hands still pressed tightly on her lips, she listened carefully to see if the people are out of earshot.
They're still there...She thought Don't make a fucking sound'
One step back. The people are getting closer. Two steps back. The people stopped talking.
Three-
"And what do you think are you doing here!?"
Turn .
Face-to-face with Arthur, whose arms were crossed and a clear portrayal of annoyance painted all over his features. His feet was tapping repeatedly against the carpet, giving off the generic 'Angry Parental Figure' vibe.
Katie didn't reply, her back against an empty hallway and an overwhelming chill ran down her spine."Katrina-"
"Yes?" She answered right away like a reflex.
"I asked you why you're here; why didn't you have dinner with us?" She couldn't tell if his tone was cold or worried or something in the middle.
She bit the corner of her mouth and tried to stop feeling so skittish and fidgety. She tried to come up with a reasonable answer to give Arthur, but she just couldn't muster one; she would constantly open and shut her mouth, recieving confused looks from the other.
"Too tired." If she had the freedom to face palm now, she would've.
Arthur raised a skeptical eyebrow, prompting her to find another answer. "I mean, I fell asleep a while back and I'm still, you know, woozy." She gave a light chuckle.
"Sorry 'bout that..""Well, would you want to have dinner now? There's still some time-" Arthur suggested kindly as Katie reluctantly took a step back.
"N-no thanks. I'm good. See?" She gave him a thumbs up, contrary to what she said, she could feel the her digestive system quiver at the lack of dinner. "I'll be fine, don't worry!"
"No, no, I insist!" Persistant little bugger, aren't you? "I'll make you dinner, if you want." He had a slight figment of hope in his tone, the corners of his lips edging upwards to form a petite grin.
Katie tried to muster the resistance to widen in her eyes in shock, to curl her face in utmost horror."Seriously, I'm fine! I can last the night, don't you worry! I won't pass out or anything!" She could feel her own discomfort evident in her voice.
Arthur remained silent for a while, looking defeated, but quickly recovered himself by offering Katie to walk her to her room.
"I-I wanted to explore a bit!" Arthur narrowed his eyes at her, causing her panic to fuel itself even more. "I mean- you know, ha, I just wanna get some fresh breather and stuff like that..." Her voice trailed off.
